So what did you do with your truck today?

Truck told me it wanted some new batteries. Had been sitting for about 3 days. It did start, just very slow cranking. The ones that came out were 7 years old so guess they did well. Crazy what new batteries ones sell for now days. I farm and sometimes do not quite until the sun goes down...

    Oil and coolant mixing

Dawn soap cleans up the cooling system. May take a couple of times.

So what did you do with your truck today?

Changed the oil, oil filter, and fuel filter. First time since I have owned the truck. I had put 4000 miles on it and the oil was changed just before I bought it. Fuel filter was marked Feb 2022. Ran to town and bought a filter wrench as the ten or so around here that I had none fit. Also picked...

Another good reason to stay out of Calif.

I have to wonder how much additional we add to the atmosphere when an engine is deleted? Would we have been better off to stop awhile back in tier levels and call it good? Chipped trucks certainly do not leave a good impression with many around them.

    Electric fuel pump wiring

This site should give you the information you need. https://www.wiringtoday.com/12-volt-relay-wiring-diagrams/ The diagram for the cooling fan will work for your fuel pump. Just ignore terminal 87 you will not need it. You will need a oil pressure switch to control the relay, not a sensor...

Electrical adventures thread - I blew or burned out something...

I find they are usually in circuits that need protection but as a rule will never have an issue that would cause one to blow. Such as feeds coming off the main power sources. Those systems (lights, gauges, etc.) are normally protected by fuses and the links provide the protection for the feed...

    Charging question

Do a voltage drop test under load and it will tell you what is going on. Cheep drop test, put it under load for a few seconds such as cranking it over turn on headlights etc and then feel for a hot spot. Heat equals resistance and that will be your trouble spot.

No fuel to injectors, IP full

Dumb question but you did connect the power wire back to the shut off solenoid and you can hear it click when you turn the key on and depress the throttle a little?

So what did you do with your truck today?

Still on the test in Idaho. I still drive a couple of cars that came out of the factory long before anyone thought we needed turn signals.

    7.3 idi compression test results

Do a cylinder leakage test and you will know where the compression is going, it may tell you about the side by side cylinders with same compression. You will always have leakage past the rings. Intake and exhaust should show no leakage, you should not see air in the radiator. General rule of...

What is the part I’m missing? Ignition trim?

Or you can buy a complete set door lock cylinders and ignition tumbler. That was the route I went when I did mine...

    Valve Stem Seals

Interesting points. Trying to understand your logic a bit better. Do we both agree that a vacuum is created on earth because there is a restriction in air flow? If we do agree on that then I am having a hard time following how you can produce vacuum going past an open intake valve. At least...

    Valve Stem Seals

Easy way to prove it to yourself is install a vacuum gauge on the intake manifold of a diesel and see what you read. Vacuum is created when a there is a restriction in the intake so less air can move into the cylinder when the piston is moving down. Put a vacuum gauge on a gas engine and you...

    Valve Stem Seals

Can you explain how a diesel engine can build vacuum since there is no throttle plate in the intake system.

    Glow plug amp draw

When I went through mine last fall when I measured the draw an individual plug would draw 27 to 30 amps for a couple seconds. The set of eight would draw close to 250 and quickly drop off. Seems like they would drop down to around 140 or so in around 15 seconds. This was measured with an...
