Before I installed my PM starter I put the top bolt part way into the hole and put the right length socket and extension on the bolt and taped it all to the starter body before going under the truck to install it. 3G alternator upgrade
I bought a 3G alternator when someone here posted a deal on them a while ago. I figured that I'll install it when my current one fails. Is there any reason that I should switch it sooner? What is the advantage to 3G? And is there a wiring conversion kit available or do I need to make one?- Brian VT

Tach sensor
My tach. doesn't work and the sensor was leaking oil so I bought a new sensor. My tach. still doesn't work and the new sensor also leaks oil. :-(- Brian VT

That's what my button does. It just jumps the solenoid. If the screwdriver trick doesn't work then I don't think a button will.- Brian VT

I bought a new switch for in the column. It was kind of a pain to replace. And it didn't work. I tried to diagnose the other parts of the system but got nowhere. So I gave up and went with the button...- Brian VT

I added a starter button under the dash. I just ran new wire from the button to the starter solenoid. I turn the key to the run position and then hit the button (after running the glow plugs). This is the button I used. I'm on my second one. The original started working intermittently after a...- Brian VT

How to set the timing on your 6.9 or 7.3 IDI and how to buy timing equipment.
No pic needed. I use a stubby wrench on the passenger side and a full-size wrench that I ground down the thickness to @ 3/16" on the passenger side.
