no truck payment
Hey guys. Just wanted to share what I did last night to my truck.
Since I got it, I have been having serious air in fuel problems. The dreaded start and die, and the "all of a sudden my truck runs like a bat out of hell" for a second or two symptoms. A few weeks ago, I replaced my return lines and it was better, but I was still getting air somewhere.
I read the water seperator exposed article and decided to take a closer look at mine. I removed it from the truck and upon the first visual inspection I could see no wet spots or leaks, so I decided to grab my vacuum gun and test it to see if it would hold vacuum. It did not. It would quickly bleed off. So, I did the only thing I could do and replace the o-ring on top. It still bled off. So, I decided to look for a replacement.
Not wanting to put another used water seperator in, I went to my local Carquest and came up with a solution. So far I am pretty happy with it. Ive only been able to test it once this morning, but from the way it runs, and the fact that I had NO air in fuel symptoms...I am confident I fixed it.
The new water seperator base part# is 89309 and cost $25.22. The element which is part# 86123 was $9.82. I then had to go to Home depot for two brass fitting elbows. 1/2 x 3/8 nipple. They cost me $10.82.
The holes on the new base where 5/16 and needed to be enlarged a little bit with a 3/8 drill bit, and after that, I was able to bolt it up in the original water seperators spot. I did have to move the cruise control servo out of the way temporarily. There is plenty of room to R&R the filter as well as to reach the water drain on the bottom of the element. Only draw back, is no WIF light provision. Which, IMHO, is a small drawback for increased filtering and a trouble free design.
I also replaced the fuel line from the water seperator down to the metal lines near the frame, just to be on the safe side.
Sorry for the crap cell phone pics.
