Am i missing something? Where is the 4th pipe on the headers, it is a V8 not a V6:dunno
I see 4 spark plug wires per side, so it pretty much has to be a V8. My guess is that the center cylinder exhaust ports are side-by-side, so whoever made the headers combined them into one pipe...

That engine is the typical flathead ford engine. They all had only three exhaust ports in the blocks but they are actually a V8 engine. They have two water pumps also. An aftermarket designer made up some heads with valves in the along with a cam. Its called a Duntov Head.... Go to ebay and look around at all the early ford flathead stuff offered. The three duce strongberg 97 manifold was really something.

I guess that makes since now, but awefully restrictive

it's like the 390 caddy i built the center exhaust port is siamesed so both cyls exit in one pipe. i sure as hell wouldn't want to drive that on a 95 degree day with 95% humidity and the sun slow cooking me next to that trans! :puke:then when a u joint lets go and smashes that cover in the middle and bruises your ribs.... :dunnocookoo

Come'on guys,,, it's a be cool and look cool rat rod.. not a push the button to pick your nose lexus ride.

If ya want to pick up cool chicks you have to take a little pain.. and park in the shade.

Flat head fords share the two center exhaust ports into one.. thus 3 per side. You needed two water pumps since the exhaust comes out the block and loads the engine with heat. I ran several in my early days....[ old guy.. from the days of push up bra's and hose with seams down the back]... 3 duce stromberg 72's were the fuel injection rig of the day. Only the rich kids had duntov heads and overhead valve conversions..

You're thinking of the Ardun head conversion...was an OHV conversion for the flathead, still kept the cam in the block.

And, you're also thinking of Zora Arkus-Duntov...:D

Alex. I know this flathead has only two carbs and the other breather looks like a third carb. I was refering to a three duce carb and manifold I had as a kid many years ago. Last nite I went to a small car show with plenty of flatheads. Really nice bunch of overly chromed engines too. And then there was the blown chevys and Mopars too. They sound great but really... Its just fun to look at ...

As far as rat rods go, that is more of a ratty rod :rotflmao I can't believe that thing is up to 12 grand already. Unfinished and running in primer is one thing, but most of the work on that thing is just plain sloppy.
