Found an IDI on craigslist, sounds like a pretty nice truck but there was not a picture. I called him up and offered $800, he said sure. I'm goin to look at/pick it up tommorow

"We're moving due to job loss, so I'm selling my truck! 1983 Standard cab long box Ford F250 XLT package.

Orange and white in color. It has a 6.9L diesel non-turbocharged engine (new glow plugs) with dual fuel tanks. Runs great - even cold (no block heater installed ... priced out at approx. $40).

The front axle has had extensive work, including all u-joints, wheel bearings, brakes, and Warn aftermarket hubs. Receipts available for all work done.

Power windows, power steering, wing windows; rear sliding window, set-up for towing. Comes with spare tire on wheel; comes with original Ford Warranty facts booklet and Haynes repair manual. Original jack with handle too!

Dual key system - one for door and one for ignition (typical older Ford). Extra set (possibly two) of keys.

Bench seat (sliding/adjustable) - fabric cover but original still in excellent condition. Carpeted floor (yes, probably should be cleaned). AM/FM cassette. A/C possible but not currently working - needs A/C pump replaced and A/C recharged.

I have performed all regular maintenance on this truck. Even though it's not pristine, it runs and drives well. It will need rear brakes in the near future and has some customary bed rust in the outside lower rear corners. Windshield has couple cracks - nothing all the way across and non in line of sight.

Asking $1000 O.B.O."

$800 for any good working 4x4 is a steal, but for a nice diesel F250 is darn sweet. Pics we demand for sure :D

Nice truck for the money. Has the rear axle been replaced? From the pictures the rear axle doesn't look like a full floater. Eason

So I have a small issue, it could just be my own stupidity or something serious. I have determined the fuel gauge for at least the front tank doesnt work, if it does I really have issues, it stops going down at about 1/4 tank. I put 5 gallons in it yesterday at the beginning of my 40 mile drive home, when I started it this morning it ran fine but was kind of surging, it had a pretty big surge, blew a bunch of blue smoke and died. Is feels like it is running out of fuel which it could be, I guess 5 gallons in a tank that long wont cover a lot of area for long. What do you guys think?

Hey Towcat, on the 92's, do all the 1 tons have 10.25's in the rear? I need to do brakes on my truck to pass inspection, and want to know if i have to pull the axle shafts out to do it. I think on the dana 70 you have to, but on the 10.25 you don't?

These trucks are notorious for "running out of fuel" while the fuel gauge shows 1/4 or more tanks. The pickup tubes get old and cracked and begin to suck air while you still have fuel in the tank. The solution short term is to keep the tanks full, above where you ran out at, and sometime drop the tank and replace the pickup tubes. Sounds like your fuel gauge and/or sender is also messed up if it stops going down.

Ok thats good to know, the rear tank gauge works fine, maybe the front is just sucking air at quarter tank so I havent got it down yet?

Still not running right, not sure what to do. It idles and revs fine but as soon as I put load on it the engine sputters and dies. I talked the previous owner and it was a daily driver for him, he never had this happen. Does it sound like air in the system?
