Cannot open the link, but out here in the prk dmv is a natzi organization, skip a renewal payment or non operation declaration, and the fines go crazy.

^ what he said is definitely the case in California. Nobody back in the Midwest really appreciates the fact that you simply cannot let your plates expire on a "project car" in California without incurring large financial penalties.

They are simply worth far more parted out than put back on the road out here in the western states.

It's being parted out on eBay, scrapyard in Arizona  It's killing me to see that. I'd LOVE that truck.

That's a shame. I never see crew cab bullnose trucks let alone a dually CC. I would venture a guess that there are relatively few DIY types with the time, tools, and talent to resurrect these old beasts. Occasionally when I tell someone my truck is a '92 they react like I said '52. Nothin' wrong with fine aged goods!

If I had enough extra cash laying around I'd call them and make an offer on the whole thing. I don't, and I certainly don't need another project lol

California is certainly a beast with registration. My 85 (34 years old!) was going to be charged almost $300 for 2019, I registered it in Arizona (have a retirement home there) for $52. I just registered it again for 5 years for $255, including $25 pr year donation to a veterans' fund. I am not going to look back when I leave.

Wow, a friend of mine told me he paid like $512 to register his truck for one year in AZ. I wonder why such a huge difference? He may have had sales tax, or it may have been for a business though, not sure.

These posts should have a trigger warning it's awful what gets tossed. The excursion I'm working on is literally leaving a quarter inch layer of rust under it whenever I touch it but it's going back into rotation as their daily driver

That is 75% of my work here! When I get something newer than 15 years old it's party time.

Even when I was still at the VW dealer, since most independent shops won't work on older VW we had a large customer pay base of old vehicles so I still saw a lot of tetanus shots.

Here's an example of a "good used engine" although this one pisses me off also

Yeah I'd do a lot more wrenching if I was down south. Always drives me crazy when we're fighting something that's rust-welded and some wise*** kid from down south says "just hit it harder it'll come out, I've never had any problems with it" I'm like come up here and show me up then lol.

I'll show you pics of my parts truck when I get tearing into it.
