WHERE did you mount your CARRIER pump???

Ok,here is my setup[they are mounted on a custom bracket and both are hooked to a fuel pressure gauge in the cab with an isolater. I have both hooked up hot and just switch the ground to activate which ever one I want.---Rob

^^ That's where mine is mounted pretty much. However I realized the inner fender is basically just a somewhat rigid sort of fabric. My bracket stays in place, but i have no doubt I could pull up on it and rip through the soft material. Honestly I do not really like mounting to that.

On mine I drilled into a metal plate right behind the battery tray, it's on top of the inner fender and the other stuff that is there from the factoury is mounted to that. I moved some stuff over and drilled in.

I made a plate and mounted mine where the stock 6.9 water seperator was. I also wired a relay in mine, key hot. May put a toggle on it in the future though.

Got insomnia at nite sometimes...ugh...

Thinking bout this again and my DESIRE to make good solid changes for ease of maintenance, and repairs etc.

One thing came to mind, and that's been the comments about mounting at the battery trays...

Got me thinking again about relocation of BOTH batteries to under my cab on Pass side frame rail. This does a few things, first keeps weight down lower and behind front axle, then it makes a nice short cable from batteries to the starter.

This fully opens the two former battery locations for a few things! On drivers side, a GAS P/U style rad overflow and windsheild washer reservoir.

On Pass side, Racor 500 and my duralift. This makes a nice area where a fellow could place a small plastic catch tray like a tupperware container to drain filters or pump into etc for servicing.

There still has not been any solid jump out n bite me idea but thus far this particular plan sure does offer some good bennefits.

Also on driver side a nice large reservoir for PS pump can be retained in are now occupied by the coolant reservoir/washer bottle.

Excellent way to really clean up under he hood and customize all in one.

Just throwing ideas out for thoughts. I can see this in my mind and only the batteries being a tad harder to get to is the only real draw back I see. I'm sure a good Semi style battery box would suffice and provide ample protection for them.

Whatcha all think of that sort of idea?

That sounds like a really neat setup, if you do go that route post pics! I had the battery relocation idea when I was shopping for cables a while back but haven't ever seen it done.

On the van I installed mine just under the hood. I have it mounted sideways which most people probably wouldn't, a little bit of air gets traped in the filter area. Also, if you took off the bowl to clean it would make a mess but it's only attached with two screws so i figured I could just take those out and hold it vertical to clean the filter.

I installed mine under the hood (on the little work area in front) because of several reasons. I didn't want it under the van to get damaged by any road debris. I didn't want water splashing on it, and I wanted it easy to get to and easy to see so i can see the filter to see if it has debris in it. This spot was the only one that met all those criteria.

For wiring I wired up two single pole switches, one switch could do the job though. Basically one switch is auto/manual, and the other switch wired to the manual side of the first switch is just on off. This way if I replace my fuel filter I can turn the pump on and off right there under the hood next to the filter. I rigged the switched 12volts up to some wiring I had already installed under the dash which I took off of the fuse panel somewhere, been so long don't 100% remember how that's hooked up. But basically just take a meter and go search for a switch 12volt. I then took that and used it to control a relay which is connected to my fuse panel on the battery I have. I'll try to take some pics...

Interesting idea, Al. I think people have talked about that before, but I can't recall anybody actually doing it.

I would think you'd want a fully enclosed battery box to shield from weather and road crap. Outside the frame rail it would be quite vulnerable to a side impact, but inside may be too crowded, and not very assessable. Do you have enough height clearance? I remember that you commented that my GoldenRod filter was too low.

If you can do the relocation, then you gain all the advantages you mentioned.
