My truck has never gotten the mpg others claim. Untill I got fuel in Az! Suddenly I was getting 2mpg more on Az fuel.

Is Cali fuel modified like the gasoline is and gives less mpg but cleaner? I also noticed that my black smoke went way up on Az fuel.

This has been going on for some time. Over the Road truckers fill up just before they enter the state and try to get through California without buying Jerry Brown's fuel. It is what it is. :(

kali winter fuel and even summer fuel, is formulated for low smoke output. and yes, you're not the only one who get immediate positive results when fueling up with a non-kali blend. but be warned, AZ gets all their fuel from kali refineries. so it can be a crapshoot if you are getting AZ fuel or leftover kali crap. I used to live in Escondido and had a reason to be south of the border on a weekly basis. when we got hit with the no-sulfur fuel, the MX fuel was the cats *** for the good stuff as long as you got it at a reputable fueling station. :D

Just curious if anyone knows what is different about cali fuel--other than it sucks. And can additives compensate for the different blend? I'm not as concerned about the cost but I hate stopping to fuel up.

true enough. When time and money permit I really want to add a SVO system. The kid i bought my D60 from would regularly pick up those large IBC containers full of grease from the bay area. The back of his truck was coated in grease but he drove for free! He did say mpgs weren't great but who cares when it's free?

I log on over 50k on my 6.7 annually, so I'm pretty familiar with my rig. I certainly know when Cali switches from winter to summer blended diesel fuel. My mpg shoots down by almost 2 miles and engine is noticeably quieter. Performance is down as well.
I can narrow it down to the day when they make the switch lol, it's that noticeable.
Makes sense tho. Cali wants to clean up the fuel so it pollutes less.....but you have to fill up more frequently....burning more fuel in the long run -Lame.

That sounds just like their logic. Illogical! I think what they really want everywhere is more money from us diesel owners. I remember back in the late 80's, when I was in high school, diesel was $.08-.$10 a gallon cheaper. Considering that gas was $.88 per gallon, that's 10% or better. Now that there are more diesels on the road, the price of diesel is always higher. Although gas engines now get as good mileage as diesels when empty, as far as I know, they still use more fuel when loaded. We pay more for better mileage? Sounds like punishment to me.
