In a previous post I Mentioned about a thing on top of the number 4 injector. I took a couple pics of it. Does anyone know what it is and what it does. I emailed the pics to one diesel shop and the techs thought it was something someone fabricated. BTW it is on a 93 F250. but the engine might be out of an 88 or 89 according to the valve cover label.

Without actually seeing a pic of it my guess is the engine probably was out of a van and that fitting on number 4 injector line is the timing adapter. Van engines were timed using cylinder 4 because it was easier to get to. Any idi engine can be timed using either number 1 or 4 cylinder. Really if your timing meter has the degree calquation sheet you can use any cylinder. Just set the offset and go for it....

Yes that is the factory timing adapter for the dealer timing setup, ( which is not used for any other timing method) and it's off a van engine if it's on #4, but that one looks to have been cobbled on a bit, but so long as it's not leaking, I wouldn't worry about it.

I would get rid of that adapter but... You can't just take it off and force the line to connect to the injector. Buy a line from Midwest Injection for around $45.00 and install it. They offer two differant number 4 cylinder injector lines... One is for the vans like you have now and one is for the trucks like you want. You might need the special injection line nut wrench to reach the nut on the pump. The lower lines are tuff to reach with a standard open combo wrench... Your adapter has a plastic collar on it that protects the brass timing area... That looks like its damaged but it means nothing as to how the engine is running....

I recommend asking questions BEFORE you start on it and also read the IP removal precedures and horror stories from doing it the wrong way as posted on youtube
