Question: what is the fastest street legal 7.3 idi truck? and what is the top speed ? Question came to mind when speaking with a friend of mine. Im thinking a 7.3 with 3.55 gears and a 5 speed should have no problem hitting 100 mph.....any opinions or facts will be greatly appreciated.

I can hit 100 mph no problems.
I usually cruise 85-90
110 is the fastest ive gotten it...
however... the fastest IDI will not be in a 83-94.5 F250/350
im gearing up to put a p pumped IDI in a 41 1/2 ton
tryin to keep it below 3000#
power to weight ratio is what its all about.

Street legal or street driven? I sure don't know what else is out there, but @Thewespaul shop truck scoots pretty good;) seriously, I am assuming that you're talking about a dead stock idit and I think that you're probably right on the money :Thumbs Up

lol well Ive been over 135 in the shop truck, (GPS confirmed) with the power it makes now it will go well beyond that but I have no intention of going that fast. Lots of guys talk about their trucks being the fastest but I dont see any other trucks running any real times at the track

its gonna be a while honestly.
ive got to finish my damn super duty first and foremost.
but I will be buying Carrillo rods in the next month or so.

this will also be just the first round. stock 41 frame, with a suicided front model A axle.
truck arm rear suspension, and a versi 9" with a grizzley locker and 3.70's on hand.
i have several different sizes of slicks for the back until i get the correct ratio.
trans will be a ST-10. until i scatter it with clutch drops lol

I believe Wes on his claim to speed.. Im wondering what rear end ratio he is running.

I cant go very fast in mine with a 4.10 rear, but it will pull when asked to and do it everyday....I know this much : my buddy Scooter and I got a '78 Chevy pick up with a built Olds 455 to run 171 mph.... His daddy ran cows on a 64,000 acre ranch and we had a highway 17 miles long cutting through the middle of it.....we also got a 1951 International one ton windmill truck to go............................52 miles per hour wide open... fun times!!!

Mine must have been the slowest in stock form then. '85 F350, DRW, 6.9, T19, and 4.56:1 out back. 3300 rpms at 65 mph. -Lame

The Ranger Overdrive helped, now she will get close to 90 at 3300 rpms, given enough time, favorable tail winds, and a semi for drafting....

My boss built a 6.9 pull truck with 2600hp. Asked him how and only responded “work and 4 turbos.” Lips are sealed on the rest. Not street legal however but still awesome.
