So my truck starts fine every morning even whèn in the single digits it starts with one cycle of the plugs and a few seconds of cranking. And when my truck is hot it will start right up without problems. But when my truck is still warm enough so that the glow plugs don't cycle, but been sitting for a while so it's not real hot (like 30 minutes), the truck will crank and no fire. But if I let off the key and crank it over again it starts right up like its hot (i usually crank it for about two seconds the first time, but once i let it crank for about 10 seconds on the first crank and it didnt start). My first thought was air intrusion but if I wait even longer to start it and the glow plugs cycle again, it starts right up. And the truck shows no signs of air while running. My truck has an electronic lift pump by the way.

Mine has a similar issue, will start fine overnight or long periods of sitting, or less than an hour or so. But if it sits for 1-2 hours it will start and immediately die, then start after a 10-15 second crank and run fine. I was thinking air intrusion as well, except it wont do it overnight. Electric lift pump here too.

Now that I think about it. Could this be like the start of heat soak? Similar to the way coolant gets hotter when you shut the truck off before it gets cool? Maybe the pump gets hotter and it's just enough to mess with it? I hope it isn't because I don't have the money for a moose pump yet.

My truck did the same thing that your did when I had the mechanical pump. But I just put the electronic one and now instead of starting and dieing it just cranks longer.

That's what I was afraid of. The pump on it has unknown miles because the original one went and I had this one sitting around. Now I need to find a way to come up with some cash for a moose pump
