Found play in my water pump, going to replace it. I've searched and found old threads about "buy OEM etc" but I've also found reviews for the Motorcraft unit that it crapped out after 15k, 30k, 40k. This is NOT indicitive of quality.

Part #: PW-454 is the motorcraft unit. I just got one from Ford, $157 after tax. Of course everybody else has water pumps for half that. Some are actually motorcraft, or supposedly so at least.

I guess I'm asking if Motorcraft can still be trusted with this part. Made in China BTW. I'm fine spending the dough if it is still the good quality, but I'd rather save the $75 if something else is just as good. Any issues with the International part?

I've not had luck with chain store water pumps. I've put Ford water pumps on both my IDI's and have not had any problems. I run a coolant filter on both IDI's as well. Doubt that makes a huge difference as I had them on with the chain store pumps that failed in short order too.

Not sure about everyone's experience, but mine has been great with Ford water pumps.

I am with hesutton. I run a coolant filter and it makes a big difference in the performance of the water pump (Ford).

I had a Motorcraft fail in about a year. I installed an ACDelco (heresy, I know) about a year and a half ago. No complaints.

And it doesnt leak?
Even just sitting in a box, those seals are surely getting hard.
I would say that in torn between FOMOCO and aftermarket. But, over the last few years, seems like not many have luck with the OEM waterpumps. And its usually twice as much.

Thanks for the input guys. I ended up pulling the trigger on an Airtex rebuilt one and I will return the Ford one.

Airtex= $42 shipped vs Ford $154 out the door.

The Ford part is "Contents Made in China", sad day.

Airtex is a USA rebuilder as far as I know, and was recommended on yet another forum in the IDI section. Lifetime warranty, too!
