stripping down a 7.3 with a broken crank. pulled the pump tower and gear. check out these pics. they kinda explain themselves :D

I say PICS or it didn't happen LOL.

for the people that are flabbergasted,
he's pointing out the top 2 bolts that bolt into the timing gear cover and not into the cast engine block.
these need sealant, or oil will leak.

and also, the reason the top bolts are shorter in length. Wouldn't want to rub on the cam gear, now would you?

I'd just about bet it broke on the second throw at the thrust main.

I had two injection pumps sitting here with broken input shafts as a result of too long of bolts being used on the water pump.

If that crank is able to be supported by 2 front mains I need a mock up block I can cut up to measure every cam before I ship out. just sayin.
