what is the difference between the vac pump for a 94 idi and the 94 powerstroke? I'm having trouble believing the parts dealer cause he says there is none.

NJGearhead,

On the 6.9 and 7.3L IDI engines, there is a belt driven vacuum pump to run the brakes, AC blend doors, etc. This is mounted on the front of the engine just like an alternator, power steering pump....

On the 7.3L and 6.0L PSD engines there is an electric vacuum pump located on the passenger fender behind the batteries.

Hope this helps

I had a VP from a V belt before and the shaft was not the same size as the one on a serpentine belt :dunno I do believe ford used the same pump on the early psd as the did on late IDI's.

The $300.00 for the hydroboost better include the master cylinder, power steering pump, all the hoses, the booster and.... The brake peddle. Otherwise its way too much asking that much...

Not quite. This is true for 99 and newer. 94 to 97 PSD had a belt driven pump, too.

cm1hedge,

Thanks for correcting me. I have only driven an OBS PSD. I have a 6.0L Ex and it has the electric pump. I have more experience with the SuperDuty body trucks.

Shaft sizes can vary on the pumps also the bolt bosses are threaded on some and drilled on others. AND the vacuum port can point in the wrong direction.
