I really don't know what I'm looking at, I've never seen a glow plug or diesel injector before, so this is all new to me. I don't even know where the o-rings or copper washers go (well, they only fit in one spot) but anyway, here are my questions.

Five of my injectors are of another brand and are made in England - it looks like it says Cav on them. The other three I got are Delphi's - I'm going to call and complain I didn't get a matched set and the quality of these looks poor (more on that).

To me, these just don't look like a quality rebuild, but I don't know what to look for. As was said before, the caps are on backwards, every package I got was opened and either missing an o-ring or a copper washer and as detailed below, some of these look beat up in (what I think) are critical areas. Let me know if I'm off my rocker or not-

This is who five of them are made by -

Here are a few of the worst looking ones - the threads and seating areas look beat up and they are just not clean.

Here are three Cav's compared to one of the Delphi's I got. Notice how nice and precision the Delphi looks compared to the Cav's?

Maybe I'm just picky - :dunno

What do you guys think? I'm pissed that most of the packages are open and missing stuff and that they are not all form the same manufacturer, but they are all at least BB code.

the injectors are rebuilt.
this means the outer casings are used with new guts.
your over worrying.:)

you'll know exactly how good they are,and how closely they are matched when you take them in to have tested before install.or just run 'em.

the outer cases can be marked anything (any letter code) as they rebuild them all of course.so whatever letter code they where originally, doesn't apply what they have been rebuilt too.

don't worry about the copper washers.those are included with new installed kits which you need to buy to replace them anyway.so it doesn't matter if you didn't get any of those.
whatever the stock "brand" name was when new, also is irreverent once rebuilt.

thats where the O-rings go and plastic cap snaps on.those look just fine and im sure will seal good.
the threaded part up top is where the hard line from the ip screws onto.thats fine as well as the threads that screw into the head.
the houses are used.they don't need to look new.
whats all new is in the inside, and should be tested and set within specs if your concerned.
or you could just find out who rebuilt them, call to ask them what was done to insure a good spray pattern and pop pressure, take their word for it,or pay to have them checked out first.
its all about the new insides.:)

this end,and how it works is your focus;

Thanks for the prep course on injectors :) So who can I send these to have spray tested? I want to ensure the truck is running properly when I switch to these injectors. The ones in the truck are working great to what I can tell, no grey smoke when idling and the truck rarely puffs black when I get on it with a load.

KyleQ: The yellow/Brownish O'ring's are the best They are hi temp Viton. Since UHaul used DieseLogic in Jacksonville FL to Rebuild there IP's I would assume they also rebuild the injectors. You could call and verify that. You could send them to TYP4 to check them out, but I think that would be money spent for nothing.

Edit--- Your truck is running great, leave it alone, use the Injectors for backup down the road.

My glow plug controller and cover just arrived today...the cover's almost certainly not new and looks like it was installed in a truck before being sold, and I'm not sure whether the controller's also used or if it was stored in a way that allowed it to get dirty. It was also shipped with no packing material whatsoever...I'm not sure if I can even trust the thing. But, at the price, you get what you pay for, I suppose...that's what I get for trusting U-Haul...

I just revcieved 6.... out of the 8 injectors i ordered. :dunno :backoff

I sent them an email asking what happened.

I can only hope the other 2 will be brand new Delphi BB codes like the 6 i received are. ;Sweet

They shipped from The city of Industry, CA, so maybe the other two are coming from somewhere further away.

What? You've never opened the hood on that 86 F350 diesel truck of yours.

I have a few thoughts for you KyleQ. First of all, you're right to be skeptical of such a low budget build, heck I bought them and I'm skeptical, all mine came with the orings attached and the copper in the bag next to it. I know what would happen if those bags were somehow scratched or damaged in shipping/packing...yep the copper would go missing. I'm most concerned about how in your pictures the pintle is exposed...did these not come with covers for the pintle and inlet? They SHOULD have, mine did. All mine were Stanadyne D code, but they are probably reman to BB spec. Your best recourse is to have these injectors pop tested, you don't know what you have until you test it. The only thing you could really complain about at a price like this is if the injectors were not actually reman but instead just used and had the dirt cleaned off and shipped to you. The other worry would be if the pintle were shipped "naked" as it were, that is a very bad practice and most fuel injection and turbo shops frown on it and are obsessively cautious about keeping the pintle from being beaten up and dirt from getting in the inlet. If the reman wor was a) actually done and b) damage did not occur during shipping, brands, appearance, and other things are irrelevant IMO. Also know that Lucas/CAV and Delphi are all owned by United Technologies these days as far as I know, so it might be splitting hair to say they were different brands. Basically before I put any injectors in my truck no matter how much I like or dislike the vendor I will be pop testing and want them to be at 2000 psi +- 200 and for best performance they should all be within 50 psi of each other. 100-200 psi variance is acceptable but will net you a rougher running engine and may have an effect, however slight on injection timing and fuel economy.
