I am considering finding a holset from an early cummins to put on my NA.

What would be the best for say spooling at 1200-1500 and making about 10-15 lbs at 2500 to 3000 rpms.

Ill be making my own up and down pipe and doing all the fitting and fabrication myself.

Im not familiar with the cummins turbo hx number mumbo jumbo so if anyone has some input it would be greatly appreciated!!;Sweet

Well, to get one to hit max boost at that low of RPM its gonna have to be a smaller turbine, thats about all I know. You may have to build ya a custom turbo to tune it to the RPM ranges you want.

What about a turbo of a Volkswagen Turbo Diesel? (just throwing it out there) Or maybe even two?

there are ones for them that spool at around 1500 and are making there full boost by 3000 and they can produce in excess of 25psi.. so by running it at 15 psi the turbo would be just cruising along and last forever :p however they may be TOO small i have no idea. look in to that though

I have always thought a Garrett T-3 of a Volvo or Saab turbo, (240/740/940-900) would be ideal, and possibly duals.. one per bank..

Course I don't quite get it completely, and have yet to run to the u-pull-it, and drop $40 on a pair of Turbo's.

HY35 would fit what you want, or an he351, both have fairly small exhaust housing and would spool really well at low RPM's. You would have to do some wastegate work on them or go external because either one is set up for more boost than our engines need.

I'm not sure about what a used dodge/cummins turbo will do. But, my wastegated Banks will spool at those RPMs when needed. Max boost will be reached above those RPM, but I'll have 2-5 psi by 1500....depending on the load on the engine.

I think and hx35 would work, we have more displacement and way more rpm range than a Cummins, I think it would spool

prob is hx 35s are expensive!!!!!! and that is just the turbo not counting the custom piping and everything, but i do think they would spool awesome

type4 will chime in shortly and let you know what works and what wont but Im thinking that a turbo that would spool to 8-10 psi at 1500 rpm would likely be an exhaust restriction at higher rpms. turbos map out to max at a certain rpm then loose effciency from there. a variable vane would do what you want and build low then stay steady up to read line but that is gonna be a real trick to get one one the truck and set up to work as it should.

Would this be possible for a 6.9? If so I'm down and I'll build a turbo per bank setup, but I'd like to hear some opinions. Sorry for the hijack but I curious.

thats kind of what i was thinking. Run one turbo per bank that pushes 6-8 psi would be awesome. I hate reving my motor over 2500 cause it sounds like its gonna come apart (not like it would) but i love the torque it makes below that and would love to have a turbo that spooled and delivered power between 12 and 2500. anything over that is pretty useless to me because i want to pull reasonable hills in 4th with 35's and at 55-60mph puts me right at 19-2000 rpms.

your afraid you going to hurt your engine hitting 2500, ha i rev mine to 3700-3800 very often and she seems very happy at those rpm and like it could take more but maybe im just crazy:dunno

im not saying im afraid to do it (my truck wont even rev that high). im saying i feel its unnecessary. why make peak boost at 3500 when you can make it earlier and more comfortably at 2500 and keep your engine happy while pulling a 2 or 3 minute hill, keep your egts and water temp down.;Sweet

unlike some (hitting 3800 regularly) id like my truck to run for years to come. :rotflmao

what would i find one of these in?

"off topic" my buddy has a 04 6.0 6 speed similar to yours with the same chip. How do you like driving that rocket ship? His is crazy fast.
