I started seeing fuel filter light over 45 and sometimes water in fuel at start up. drained it and saw no water? changed the filter and tried to clean the bowl. Now if I drive it under 45 it is ok but over that and it starts to run bad and loose power. it will die and then is hard to start. I had to floor it today to get it started and it ran rough for a while but made it home. I cleaned the FPR screen... what am i missing?

Maybe your fuel pump is dying? Sound like the pump can't keep up with the fuel demand over 45 mph. :dunno Put a pressure gauge on the schrader valve and let us know what it reads. Do you have a wet spot under your fuel pump? The hard start may be because your fuel bowl does not completely refill and you're sucking in air. Try this. With the hood open and somebody in the driver's seat, have them crank it. While cranking, press in the schrader valve. This will purge out any air. Once fuel squirts out the system is primed and should fire right up.

well by the looks of that filter and bottom of the fuel bowl you need injector orings.what color was the fuel in there before you drained it?

Do have a puddle under there? I drove it to work cause it is only 35 between here and there, plus less than a mile. If it does it again I'll try that.

Remember I run a mix once up to temps, but here is a picture.

kinda hard to tell with you running a mix.black oily fuel and filter is usually a dead give away that you need injector orings.

sounds like the fuel pump
Is it the leak or just a weak pump? when I got home tonight I opened the filter and it was 3/4 full is this right? I drained this much out?
Also will the tranny cause any of this?

Anyone got a good pump for sale?

A fuel pump leak is a possible indication of a weak pump. They leak before they crap out. A weak pump won't keep up with the needed fuel supply at WOT. The fuel bowl at 3/4 full is not right. Your tranny is innocent. LOL

Get a pressure gauge on the schrader. I think you'll see really low PSI.

Getting back to that crap you're burning for fuel. :D If your tank is not heated your fuel pump has to work extra hard to pump that crap to the injectors. Our fuel pumps are designed for diesel not thick oil. Put a hot fox in your mixed tank heated by a coolant loop. This will at least warm your crap to thin it out enough to not have this problem again with the fuel pump.

The fuel pump is Carter-Mogul M61067. I've seen them on eBay for about $60.

Anybody know of an easy way to get the banjo bolt back in?

You got it out didn't ya....use a screwdriver to "gently" move the flange back in place on the back of the pump...there is a small flange that seats and centers it to the pump.....then it's just a matter of contorting your finger under the turbo pedestal and thread it back in.

You pull the filter bowl?

I just did on on my buds '97 Friday, along with a new MBRP exh w/cat delete, removed EBPV flap and open air intake.....next are both UVC's and glow plugs.

Anybody know of an easy way to get the banjo bolt back in?

Firstly, did you buy two NEW flat washers that go on either side of the banjo bolt?
Secondly, prior to installation thread the banjo bolt into the fuel pump to make sure there are no burrs and it threads in smoothly.
Thirdly, by hand start threading the banjo bolt and tighten as much as your fingers can stand.
Lastly, tighten the banjo bolt with a claw foot wrench (forgot the size) or with a homemade 90* bent flat crescent wrench.
