The chain in my transfercase has worn through the case. Odd as I never heard anything unusual. Anybody got one for an 87 with the T19 trans? how much?

Is your worn case a fixed yoke or a slip yoke model

.ost all ford married cases are 6 bolt 31 spline in full size trucks. Not untill new body super duty 98 up does that change iirc

Any Ford transfer case will bolt to any Ford 4x4 transmission(except the 6 speed stuff). What you have to watch out for is shifter differences, output shaft style differences, and small length differences may cause driveshaft problems. But they will all bolt up to the tranny and spline counts are all the same. Even back into the 70's.

Ford 80-94(97???) cases are all the same 6 bolt 31 spline input. There is some variation in the output with the later 1356 cases, most had a slip yoke but a few had a fixed u-joint flange on the rear output.

An 87 is likely a 1356 case with a slip yoke. Probably the c6 cases above are 1345's. They will fit, but you would need the drive shaft to match.

However, you shouldn't have any trouble finding a case at the local pick-n-pull for $150 or so. Gasser or diesel, any 3/4 or 1 ton 4x4 87+ should have the case you need, just make sure it looks the same as yours and has a matching output (ie fixed yoke or slip).

It's fairly cheap and easy to throw a rebuild kit in too while you have it off as well.

Probably a 1345. Both look about the same and are functionally almost the same except ~90% of the 1356 cases have the slip yoke. The in cab shifter is slightly different, the the actual case shift setup is that same and AFASIK will swap in.

Seriously, run down to the junkyard.... good chance you'll be able to find one there.

Sounds like you hqve a 1345 not 56. On back side where ribs are do they bulge just slightly outwards if so 1345 cause 1356 bulges inward...pics to come

Negative ghost rider...

F1/2/350 cases are in effect the same throughout the year...example 1990 modle year all have slip yoke 1356 a Bronco uses a fixed yoke in that year with a rou d fla ge not a ujoint yoke.

Also F350 case front half is aluminum with a PTO provision

Not certain what scoop is on say 1345 modle cases if same differences as I provided.

Here's what came up on a search of junkyards in California. As you can see, there are different models that will work. It is curious that it only used 1987 models though, it will usually use many years unless some small piece about it is different. I punched in a 87 with a fixed output yoke.
