Can someone tell me if it is normal for the transmission to slam in to gear?
in the snow it makes the rearend try to kick out and when it is dry it will try and give you whiplash. I don't know if it has a shift kit or how to check.
I also don't know what transmission it has but it is an auto.

These E4OD trans need imput from a working tach and speedo senser. Also the injection pump switch called TPS found on the drivers side needs to be calibrated properly. The voltage on the center wire needs to be .96 to 1.2 volts. This is on a warmed up engine. Key on but engine off. They only last about 50,00 to 75,000 miles. If you attempt to replace it care must be taken to watch how its wound up on the injection pump lever. Do it wrong and the switch breaks when to test it. But the short answer is no.. You should not be getting that harsh of a shift and if you continue it will ruin the trans....

The tranny should not slam into any gear. Even with a shift kit.
Check for codes. The transmission pressure is running high. Most likely HP mode (limp mode) This is a fail safe to get you home. Continued running in this mode will kill the tranny.

Any tranny shop, garage, or dealer can pull the codes for you. This will give you a direction to go in for repairs.

the OD light don't work and the tach only works when the rpm hits around 1500 any lower it just drops to 0 and stays there till i give it more power.
I will get it pluged in to a shop ans see what it is doing thx.
was hoping it would be an easy cheap fix but I don't think it will

That's your problem. It sounds like your tach sender is shot. It's on the side of the oil fill to the right (driver side) I think a 1" wrench takes it out, it's got two little wires attached to it...the wires have a plug on them about 6 or 8" away from the sender. Unplug it, and remove it. See if it is full of metal shavings on the bottom. Clean it off, put a little teflon tape on it and drive it back in there. See if it makes the tach work.

If this does not work, time to replace the sender.

Here is your part number from Ford.

E5TZ-17B384-A TACH SENSOR ASSEMBLY. That should get you back on the road, but I would still advise getting it scanned!
