Hey so I have a 1988 Ford F-250 I’m trying to wire up a 7 pin trailer plug, my truck came with factory tow package with it. But I’m having trouble trying to find out where everything gos. I have been searching the internet but with no avail. So I got about 90% of it figured out simply using a test light. What I don’t know is the red/ light green wire for the brake controller and for the 7 pin plug. So for the brake controller I have power (red), ground (white), Electric brake (black light blue strip) and not sure where the (red with green strip) gos. The pic I have for the brake controller says it wants the brake switch on the brake pedal but seems like the (red with green stip) would go there also since it’s the stock wiring harness. (Pics added with 3 wires form stock harness and wiring for brake controller)

Then the rear 7 pin I have all figured out besides again that (red with green strip) wire. Off the stock harness I have as follows.
Blue/Black: to trailer brakes from the electric brake
controller
White: GROUND
Yellow: Battery power to trailer battery
Black/Pink: To trailer back up lamps
Orange/Light Blue: Trailer RH turn signal/brake
lights
Light Green/Orange: Trailer LH turn signal/brake
lights
Black: taillight/ running lights
But have that (red with green strip) that I don’t know where it gos. The stock wiring harness that came with the truck is 3 plugs unlike the year 91 with a 2 plug system.

Just leave it off. I THINK that wire was for the old hydraulic brake controllers that would need a feed to the brake light for manual activation of the lever on the brake controller.

That particular wire is not hooked up on my trucks with no adverse effects. As long as you have everything else correct you should be good to go.

Yep you was right the old hydraulic system needed an additional wire hooked up to the controller. So now for modern systems that “trailer brake lamps” wire is no longer needed.
