Mike....ya better put 4 layers of woolies on today ...that wind is frikin' brutal!
Last report was wind chill in the ----high 20's cookoo

Not too bad here today but the weather and hammering on the crossmembers is giving me bad headache. Got the old brackets stripped and swapped the axle crossmembers on the new section of frame. Was gonna ream the holes to 3/4" but I'm quitting for the day.

Found that Fleetpride in Raleigh is a distributor for Spicer and does custom Spicer drivelines in house. Had no problem getting through to talk to their machinist today, seems to share my ideas and know what he is talking about. Spicer components is what I want and that's where I'm going to take it. Hopefully have the truck drivable again next week.

do keep one thing in mind on the rear U-joint...
the permenant lubed U-joints are the bane of the heavy duty towers.
They are meant to go together once and stay together. Unfortunately noone took into account that sometimes a truck needs to be towed. They are a bear to pull apart and will need to be priced into and repair job for replacement.
...just my .02:D

Gary, he is just moving the orig single back a few feet....he for sure don't need a tandem weight wise....that thing is gonna be a beast to turn as it is  :D

Yep

Oh an 11' wheelbase stretch is just a few feet:rotflmao

Added a total of 19' of frame yesterday:eek: a little of it will be cut off the tail. The last 8' behind the rear tires will be an 8 degree beavertail.

Truck will be 38' long. Only carry a max of 7-8k on the rear axle and towing the same. My 19k rear axle is plenty.

Goal is similar to these.

I don't believe in the permanently lubed crapola. That's for idiots that don't know how to use a grease gun. My road trucks get serviced once a month.

When I have the driveshaft made I'm plan to have them replace the 4 old U-joints and the exisiting carrier bearing and start fresh and I want grease fittings on everything possible.

Be 75' long towing a 37' trailer:D.

Will be mounting my spare Putnam Firehawk II 23k 5th wheel and gooseneck on the end of the beavertail as well as have a gooseneck ball on the headache rack.

Gotta be flexible for maximum $$$$$.

Do you ever have a day you feel like you got nowhere.

4 hrs and only managed to kill all 3 of my cordless drill batteries to ream twelve 5/8" holes to 3/4", drill out one stuck cotter pin (still have one to go, other 2 came out easy), remove 2 spring pins...... been pounding with a 4 lb sledge and a steel drift and PB blasting one for 3 hrs, won't budge, thankfully the other one with a stuck cotter pin moves free.

Letting the stuck spring pin soak in PB blaster overnight...... One way or the other it's coming out tomorrow.

Pins are going back together with anti sieze.

Joker huh,:backoff

Had my cordless drill in low gear, high ain't worth a chit on big stuff, yea it cranked my arms a few times, I bent either the bit or chuck a little too. Just don't have 20 batteries like you.

Bring big bertha and the vid cam and I'll punch the last 24 holes for your entertainment...be a heluva lot faster.... then I'll let you play w/ the stuck spring pin.LOL

Much accomplished today.

Stuck spring pin came out with heat, PB Blaster and some TLC from a 4 lb sledge..... I dunno why George wanted to swing the hammer while I held the drift.

Got the rest of the holes reamed to 3/4" and bolted all the brackets into place and rolled the rear axle into place. Axle is pinned into place and have good measurements for the new driveshaft will be just over 20' long.

And I DID use antisieze on all of the spring pins.

Need to pickup some 3/4 grade 8 hardware to bolt in the old crossmembers in the original portion of the frame.
