Who knows how the timing scale on the crank is attached?

I'm really tired of the tube for a magnetic probe coming loose. JB welded it to time it last time, and is wobbling again.

Anyone have a timing bracket/scale they are willing to part with?

And please tell me you don't have to pull the dampener to replace them...and that they are easily replaced...

I'm pretty sure that it is welded to the front cover, id think you have to pull the cover to replace it

Can you drill a hole and use a pop rivet? Lol
Actually, from the pics I can find, looks like it is riveted.

I don't trust rivets, ever. If it's removable, but not bolted down, like with nuts in the cover, I'd pull the cover and install bolts. Good future idea, but I'm not pulling anything extra off the engine (dampener, gear cover, etc.). I just don't have the time for that this year, at least.

That bracket is not replaceable. It is spot welded to the cover.
Yup!

Which means it *is* replacable... with a new front cover.
To replace it, you are going to need to remove the fan, water pump, harmonic balancer, and anything attached to the water pump or is in the way.

The front cover also contains the front main seal, so be aware of that.

Thanks for the info fellas. I'll just have to add more epoxy to the probe tube and hope it holds this time, for now.

Don't think I could get a ground clamp directly on it, even if I did have a welder here. Unfortunately, my overlords don't allow me the time to do that. Is have to get the old JB weld off it first. But that is something I may be able to do in the spring. I've got a plan I'm working on to do a job switch by then.
