Before I put a wastegate delete flange on mine, I tried using a piece of mechanics wire to tie it closed. Didnt work.
I then got a huge hose clamp, one that is about 5-6" diameter, I put it around the wastegate arm and the diaphragm bracket, and tightened it up. Night and day difference.

I know both of you have blocked off your wastegate. How did you do it? Any photos or lists of supplies would be helpful. I have the CDD stage 2 turbo it’s a Garrett with a wastegate. I would love to do the wastegate delete flange but I’m trying not to spend anymore money than I already have :rotflmao -Lame

I just simply removed the waste gate and capped the 1/8” npt port. I got a piece of all thread from McMaster carr to connect to the existing piece that connected to the waste gate and tightened it down on the gate bracket.

Oh dang thats slick. I guess I just reinvented the wheel when I did mine.
The wastegate delete flange and 3" down pipe sure is nice though, lot more room in there too now.

We are almost there. I spent Saturday replacing the leaking Wix fuel water separator, tightened up some leaking fuel lines, charged the AC, and finished the stereo wiring. Just need to mount the stereo and tighten up my leaking coolant overflow line. I’m hoping to get this thing titled in Idaho (currently titled in AZ) and start daily driving it within the next week or so. I’m sure there will be little demons that come to light when I start driving it consistently but hoping to have all the kinks worked out and have a good old reliable rig again.

Finally back on the road! I’ve been driving it to work all week. So far everything seems pretty good. I think I am losing some boost to the wastegate though, I can get to about 12 PSI pulling hard and building boost and then it just stops building boost. Need to reevaluate my method of locking the wastegate closed.

EGT’s are easily manageable, I hit 1,000 degrees on a hard full throttle pull up to 85 MPH but they came right back down once I got out of the skinny pedal. Cruising 65 MPH they are about 550 degrees. Water temp is good, right around 200 while cruising. Oil pressure is about 42 PSI cruising, 25 PSI idle.

This thing starts easier than any diesel I’ve ever driven. I barely have to bump the key to start and it pops right off and idles smooth.

Pretty soon it will be time to start getting the exterior cleaned up and ready for a paint job.

Well life has a funny way of laughing at your plans. Not long after my last post I took the family up to the hardware store in the truck. I was being a bit of a show off and romped on it hard coming out of the parking lot. My reward, instead of a laughing and smiling family was a broken serpentine belt… I got that replaced and drove it for another couple of weeks.

Long story short I needed a functional vehicle and this thing still needs some work so I ended up buying another F150 to daily drive.

It’s basically been sitting since May of 2025. Just this weekend I got around to looking into some of the issues and I am in the process of getting the belt drive back to 100% and then I will move on to the drivetrain issues I had.

I have a weird intermittent clunking noise in the front end. Probably need to just rebuild the TTB I’m 99% sure it’s never been touched.
