Ah...sorry didn't know that. I'll keep an eye out for 7.3 pumps in the meantime.

Sorry, meant to reply to the original msg. Friends are friends and business is business. Your providing a service to us, but still need to make a few bucks. I wouldn't expect you to provide me a service at your expense. Charge em a fair core and when they come thru reward em with a great product and their core charge back. Just my 2 cents worth.

It really is amazing. You wouldn't think guys are that thoughtless that they wouldn't return a core, but some are. I've had to beg and plead with some guys to send me cores back. We have not pre-charged for cores in the past, but that may have to change. Personally, I find the swapping of money back and forth a drag, and I'd really rather avoid it. But some people are sneaky, and give you a credit card number that is only good once. We think because we still have the number, that we can charge them again, but when the core doesn't come back, and it's 2 or 3 months out, suddenly the card doesn't work and we get stuck. I'd hate to include the core charge in the initial purchase, because I know so many customers can't float the extra money without paying interest. It really is a dilemma.

Russ and Mel both. You guys have been very straight forward in any dealings with me. I appreciate your wanting to help all of us in the community, but you have to cover your end. In my over 1/2 century  I have usually had to do extra because a few people don't see fit to do the minimum. It is just life. A few mess it up for all.

If the cores are rare, get them first. If you can do a core charge, do it high enough to get it back or at least cover your time (;Sweet), money and energy to replace it. We appreciate you guys but we don't want you to go away because a few didn't do what is right.

Maybe there needs to be a new forum for core cost people that don't return cores. Then those fools get a special next time. Nothing without a core first. Grouping everyone in with the bad apples is never fun but its the evil that has to be done sometimes. I get screwed by someone only once. Sure its costly. they are the turds in the punch bowl of life.

How do you tell a 6.9 pump from a 7.3?

jim

6.9 has a 29 on the end of the number 7.3 has a 31, usually, some rebuilders dont put stanadyne tags back on, and i just found out that someone swiped my 3 uhaul pumps out of the garage, real interesting because with a buutload of tools and piles of turbos , just the pumps are missing. And even tho I cant see the floor sometimes, Brandon and I both searched and cant find them. arrrrggghhh

Russ,

Core charges: I can't think of any foolproof way to avoid charging a core charge, unless, of course, you're rebuilding the core in question. You can't say, "I'm going to charge personA a core charge, but I'm not going to charge personB, for whatever reason." That might work for a while, but word would eventually get out. So, it about has to be all or none.

I remember when I sent you my IP for rebuilding, you had the job done in very quick order, and I received an email saying something like,"The IP is done and already in the mail back to you. Please send a check." I could hardly believe your trust. You have no idea how much I appreciated that trust.

However, business is business, and you can't afford to buy cores for people who don't replace them. Therefore, with extremely few exceptions, I think you've got to charge a core charge.

U-Haul IPs: That's a terrible thing, having 3 IPs stolen from your garage. Since nothing else was taken, those IPs were targeted. Are you absolutely sure they're gone? Start thinking who knew you had them. Did you keep a record of the numbers on the Stanadyne placard? Start watching everywhere they might be sold. I'm sure all of this has already occurred to you. I hope you recover them.

Wow Russ. Crackheads ripping you off requires some lead aimed that way. Time to notify the home owners insurance. You pay for this so why not get something back for all the years of no claims. I have never once filed a claim on my home owners insurance but just may have to. I can't find my 5 ft aluminum step ladder. I'm thinking neighbors illegal house painter that were in my yard painting their garage that sides toomy yard probably took it. Stealing ******** have no cool at all. I really hope you find them. I do understand loosing something. I "found" two new oil pumps for our engines after I bought another one some 5 years ago. One is the factory boxed pump and the other is the less than stellar pumps we all know of. So now what am I to do with two found new pumps cause I "lost them" in my mess called storage...

Ill Have to search the forums for the name, cause I got 4 total and 2 were the good rebuilder and 2 not so much. The one leaker was ina bag from my rebuilder they tested it, and it was right in front of the welder, I remember thinking I would need to move it before welding, the other 2 were in front of the toolbox when the monsoon season hit and water was coming in the door so I moved them to a table then back to a shelf.

Very puzzling. and I lost my 20 foot ext ladder last year. out of a fenced back yard, and if I catch them they wont be seen again, at least not in one piece, ,
Hmm I just realized my half brother , whom I dont claim, just got out of jail. Idiot robbed a store, armed , on a bicycle, and people wonder why I moved out at 17.

was offered to Mel some time back when he posted looking for pumps. didn't even make it high enough on his attention span for even a "no thanks".
