Here is a condensed version, I have been stiffed on 1 turbo core and 2 oil cooler core returns. Not from this forum. But these thing need to be clear, and they will be layed out on the website.,Yes its coming.
But I am seriously reluctant as I really dont like being taken advantage of.
I have turbos to prebuild but they are parts of complete kits I intend to use, so if I prebuild to help out the daily driver that needs an item I expect the core back.
As Mel will attest to all IDI core parts are hard to come by.
The rest of this post is a message I sent to a buyer, if it sounds ok , cool if not I am open to feedback/advice.
Working 60 hours a week and trying to support the IDI community is keeping me busy

Maybe increase your core charge? To me, the core charge should be whatever it would realistically cost to replace that core. Plus if it's a large chunk of change people are much more likely to make sure they get the old one back.

I agree but some of these parts are not replaceable.
I have not charged a core yet to anyone , but that may have to change. The oil coolers I went on their word, my mistake. Now im out of coolers to help the community and one of them was off an engine I was going to build.

Well Russ. To me I have been taken atvantage of several times too. n your case my thoughts are get the core before you ship. I realize people are trying to drive their rigs till they get the stuff from you but gees. If someone is going to cheat you then its change the way your doing business to protect yourself. I too "trusted members here to do the right thing and it got me nothing but trouble and high costs to fit my timing meters. Two of them still are not working either and that sickens me. What I require now is no matter what. When a person finishes using the meter they ship it back to me. then I test it on my truck and know its ready to ship to another person on the list. This potencially increases the shipping time twice if someone on the east coast used it and the next person wanting it is also on the east coast. I have been advised to never loan or rent out tools or meters several times. Those advising me have had tools and stuff not come back so thats why they were telling me that. I want to trust but I verfiy too. If you need an oil cooler bundle to complete a build of your own engine pm me. I have several here. I even have a complete psd cooler with the header on it.

You can't make everyone happy. If dropping the replacement in an overnight box on receipt of the core is to long for folks to wait, then they need to make other arrangements. My personal opinion. There aren't too many options for people who need these parts. If it were me I'd not ship until I had the core. A stupidly high core charge is an option too but most people have more time than money it would seem in the IDI community. Either way, as tight as margins are, you guys need some way of protecting yourselves to stay in business. My two cents. I felt like I needed to say something because dishonest people **** me off.

A friend of mine bought an injection pump for his Cummins, and the core charge on the old pump was actually higher than the cost of the new pump. He was very careful to get that core sent in. I've thought about getting a spare parts pickup so I'd have a set of injectors and a pump to send in while I continue to use the other pickups, as well as swiping other misc. parts from.

Sorry to hear people can't follow through. I personally couldn't do anything but on a rebuild basis. If they want your services they can wait.

We pay big time for core charges on everything from Cat and Cummins whether its injectors or pumps at our shop. Often more than the new parts cost. Heck there's even a $100 core charge on ADIP Air Dryer cartridges...when the customer feels the cost of the core they'll make sure you get it back.

Easy fix Russ: tell them that they have to pay with a credit card and build the core charge into the original payment. It's amazing how much better people are at returning cores when they have a $250 credit via their credit card riding on the return.

Good luck Russ, hopefully people will figure out that without rebuiders, pricing and availability are effected.
