I think it comes down to your needs. Maybe the answer is you don't have any needs and this is just a want... either way, here are a couple thoughts.

If you were thinking of flipping it, building it stock would be the most economical build and resale would be better for stock than something crazy (with respect to number of potential customers). Single cab is not as desirable most places. I don't know about in CA.

I don't know if you will have problems registering it if you do the PSD swap or not. It is technically legal to do that swap by EPA because that engine came in that generation truck. Again if re-saling that might be a negative but having a PSD truck might bring more money.

A clean cab with title is usually something that someone somewhere needs. That's a harder sale I would guess out there than it is out here so parting it may or may not get you the best bang for the buck.

At the end of the day, I think it depends mostly on how big a project you want to tackle because honestly, all of the options you presented are projects... even parting/scrapping takes some level of effort.

this is my view.
i dont really need this truck. but it has fallen in my hands.
my 01 does the towing,
my 87 does the commute and family transportation,
my 71 is available if i ever need a long bed,

this thing would be nothing more than a toy.
ever since i was younger, i enjoy taking really cheap vehicles and fixing them up.
and now i find myself with a platform that is buildable.

registration isnt an issue. no smog, inspections or anything.
i could go so many ways with this truck.

my issue is that i have this registrable truck that is pretty beat, cab is in ok shape minus one of the rear pillars.
its almost a great candidate for a crew cab short short bed.
a mini version of my 6 door.

my addiction to cars, and projects tells me to do something like the above.
my brain tells me to get rid of the damn thing.

but it is a 4 wd truck would be kind of a shame to turn it into a 2 wd
may just non-op it, and store it for a while until i make up my mind.

Your neighbors must just LOVE you... LOL

Could be worse; imagine having the grille and hood off on a truck and doing a top-end rebuild with the truck facing out of an open driveway...in the most expensive part of town in Palo Alto  :rotflmao the neighbors were all multimillionaires, and they did not like me much... :flipa

Okay, I give up. What is the second picture?

Looks like you almost have another running driving truck.

I like short beds. If it's going to be a single cab, it needs to be a short bed. Better proportioned.
