Hey guys...

Got in my truck to leave for work and noticed a new sound. While cranking, there is a distinct tapping noise coming from the bell housing. Doesn't make the noise while running.

Has newer starter and an Luk single mass conversion.

Anyone else have this issue? Almost sounds like it's coming from the starter but I've never heard one tap before. Starter is tight and it doesn't crank slow.

Ideas?

I climbed under it this morning when I got to work and all looks normal. Nothing loose and no odd wear on teeth. Its never made this noise and now it does it every time I start it.

When I get home, I'm going to disconnect the IP power feed and see if I can track down where its coming from. If its the starter, I'm not overly worried about it. I'll replace it again.

Did a bit of hunting on the noise. Not coming from anything up top. Only makes the noise while cranking and is coming from down low on the passenger side (around the starter). I'm wondering if it chipped a gear in the reduction box on the starter.
