Im getting a isspro pyro and TC and it is the 1/8 npt drill and tap type. When you tap NPT do you go all the way till the end of the tap threads is flush with what your going into?

Also is it ok to put the TC at the number 8 manifold going from underneath the truck it seems easier to get at.

I dont know if anyone is willing to buy can I borrow someones 1/8 NPT tap I found one for 20$ but for something im only using once thats a little much. It could be shipped cheap in a envelope with a stamp, and if I break it ill buy you one.

When tapping pipe leave 3 or 4 threads of the tap showing. You should be able to get one at a hardware store for about 5 bucks.

so 1/8 npt is the tap size for the thermocouple? i was thinking about drilling and taping the up pipe just below the flange, where the turbo will sit, for the pyro and then just plugging it until i can get one. that would seem to be the best place for a pyro. :dunno

What he said. You need a "R" letter drill, it is .339 inch diameter.

Best place for a pyro is as close to the pistons as you can get. I like mine in the exhaust manifold;Sweet

I put mine in the driver side exhaust manifold. By the way I like the way the autometer mounts the probe better than the isspro. Maybe its cause the last isspro I did didnt come with the compression fitting

I bought a galvinized pipe fitting at ace that my pyro probe fit into. drilled hole in up pipe, a couple sizes bigger than probe. Then centered the fitting over the hole, and welded fitting to up pipe. The readings seem to be accurate. Probly a bigger pain than just tapping, but a suggestion! I also had everything out when I did this, so it went pretty smooth.

yeah I think its going to be to hard to weld in the truck, plus arnt the manifolds cast so I dont know how well it will hold up.

I just searched the local hardware stores around here on the web sites and they dont carry a pipe tap that small. weve got tons of taps at work but no NPT

Actually a 1/8 npt tap is pretty large, a 1/4 npt tap requires a 7/16 hole

I had a heck of a time trying to find a tap to mount my TC. I tried Home Repo, Sears and a few other places. I ended up having to borrow one from one of our mutual aid fire departments.

That's weird. I would think any ACE or Servistar.. (ok, yea I know they are gone now) hardware store would have them.

I am hitting this because I had to sift through 10 pages of crap to find one that covered the best place to put it AND the correct size of the tap in the SAME post. Someone hit this thing with the "All you need to know about the install" words and add a sticky to it.
