I know somebody has done it, because i have already seen it somewhere, But anybody make brackets to hook up a 8V71 or 10V71 charger to a 6.9L/7.3L. Know its far fetched, but i have the powerstroke for daily driving, but wanting to get a lil crazy on my 86. I already have a set of Stan's headers that i picked up crazy cheap.. Just looking for a cool set up

Its been gone over a dozen times here, might do a search on it. The one you've seen was pretty much non functional and I believe the lower intake was around $10k from BDS.

I'm the person that went to BDS and talked to them about one of their superchargers on a 6.9. They had nothing to do with that truck except selling them the supercharger. The guy made his own intake setup. BDS told me they would "work with me" but the one off intake was going to be around $18,000.00 to $20,000.00... If they made more of them the price would come down some.... BDS is about 4 miles from my home so it was a no brainer to go have a talk with them after seeing the 6.9 motor on craigs list... You need to remember that a supercharger needs about 10% of the crank horse power to turn it. So you are loosing that much hp off the top.... It doesn't sound like much but think about what an 8000 hp top fuel motor will loose.... Around 800 hp.... Kinda shocking isn't it......

I have been wondering why people havent investigated the smaller superchargers like these:
http://www.vortechsuperchargers.com/category_browser.php?level=1&ln=SUPERCHARGERS

alot less plumbing, could go where the AC went, easier to hook up. I've been wondering what a super could do teamed up with a turbo, fast off the line and fast after if pressures were about equal? would be alot of boost requiring internal work but eh... Roots would look sweet but this smaller super seems a TON more practical

Also I've heard about a super-turbo charger recently... dunno much about it but suppose to have the best of both worlds? I doubt it but worth researching.

I am also surprised that we haven't seen more centrifugal style or Vortec style chargers on these motors. Some friends of mine have been running them on Mustangs and Camero's for years and they work great. They would be pretty simple to mount up (compared to a roots style) with some time and having a serpentine belt would make it even easier :dunno I guess the cost is what hold most people back...

An M80 or M88 roots type blower can be had for a few hundred dollars, you can get 12psi out of them easy. making a mount would be extremely simple. I would go that root if i was gonna go that direction. I am pro turbo and anti SC though.

Blowers are neat to look at, but they really lose their pizazz as the rpms climb. Just the opposite of turbochargers. And turbos don't have to work all the time. They will happily go along for the ride if you are cruising, but will do real work if you step on it. The reason for the popularity of blowers in drag racing is that they are all in from the very start, whereas you have to wait for the turbos to spool up.

2 stroke diesels use blowers a lot, but are usually in stationary or low rpm usage.

If anyone really wants to put a blower on their IDI, I can and will help make a manifold for you at a very reasonable cost. $10,000 was BDS saying, "we don't want to waste our time with this, but for a lot of money, we will."

Mount for mine is being fabbed as we speak. I can only go so fast though since the engine is not all the way together.

Actually, all 2 stroke diesels use superchargers. They will not run without them period. Also, there is no such thing as a 10V71.there were 1-71 to 6-71 inlines and 6V71,8V71,12V71,16V71(pair of 8V71s bolted together),and the monster of all monsters 24V71(pair of 12V71 4 superchargers,4 turbochargers).A supercharger would work but it robs horse power where a turbo does not.On a gas motor they use superchargers due to the ease of tuning and in the early days you could just bolt the carbs on top keeping the vaccumn to make them work.Carbs don't work real well when your forcing air through them like you would with a turbo. Now with electronic injection, turbo charging a gasser is easier since you don't need a vacumn to suck the fuel through the carb and the computer can adjust the fuel supply for low boost and high boost instantly. For a diesel it doesn't matter. You can't run a diesel lean or rich. You can run with not enough fuel and have a guttless wonder or way too much and be blowing smoke out your tail pipe but it won't distroy an engine like a gasser doing the same.

The ticket would be a non gated turbo blowing into a roots style charger giving you the best of both worlds

yea,but have you ever tried to file a FAA flight plan for a set of IDI heads? It ain't easy and they really don't like jokes!

Edit....
Kinda like this?
