If your old radio did not have a digital tuner you will not have a constant hot, cig lighter or clock are your easiest to get it from. And if it is that old also verify that you have a speaker in each door, and not just one in the dash, but either way I will bet they are common ground....and you are gonna end up running new speaker wires.

Depending on which stereo you had, there may not be a plug, and if if it's an old 2 post analog radio, there won't have been a constant power source either. I usually tap into the cigarette lighter power feed for that.
From the sounds it, the existing stereo is wired with a common ground for the speakers. This is not something you will want to keep, so you're best off just to run new wiring.

yes, it was a 2 post analog radio. that explains the lack of a constant power supply. when i put my new speakers in, there was a black/green and black/white wire, so i guessed and wired the black/green as + and the black/white as -. hopefully that turns out right. im getting sick of this wiring crap, never took well to it. i found the plug for my speakers in my dash, the thing is all the wires are the same color(s) on both sides of the plug. *** do i do??

I am about 99% sure you are correct, but the black/white being negitive will more than likley be common to both speakers...I would seriously consider running new wires unless you can find where the splice into each other and seperate them.

yes, it has a speaker in each door, i just replaced both yesterday.
