Cost, rag joints are much cheaper than ujoints. You can get the Borgeson steering joints either solid like what I have or with bonded rubber damping if that's important to you.

sound isolation also.

Got it swapped out today. What a greasy nasty mess. It's really the only thing on my truck that is nasty anymore. Did some cleaning while I was in there too. I didn't have too much slack in there, but the old one was leaking out of the output shaft on the bottom and the input shaft from the steering shaft. (Anybody know the real names of these?)

It was really quite easy to install too. Thanks for the advice everyone. Worst part are the power steering lines on the top. Just no good way to get to those.

Just my luck, my box started leaking again today after replacing sector shaft seal a few months back. LOL Either the seal kit on my shelf for 5+ years was not so supple anymore or the sector shaft needs to be polished smooth.

I did mine this summer after output shaft seal started leaking really bad. Since I have a hydroboost system on my F450 it went critical fast, in rush hour traffic.. lost all the oil..

Nursed it home, then went to NAPA for a rebuilt. Just to buy myself an option, I also bought a reseal kit at $9.00, but once I had the unit out.. went with the rebuild one.. so far.. it's all good. NAPA has a good warranty so I went with them..
