I must be an idiot when it comes to searching. I can't seem to narrow the search down to what I am looking for. There are a million posts with the terms glow plugs.....

I am looking for directions on how to convert my "NON STARTING" 6.9 to the newer 7.3 glow plug system. Some people say it is pretty easy, some say I don't have to buy the entire harness, just lengthen a couple of wires and change the ends to bullets.

Where can I get the directions for doing this and a list of actual parts I need?

I really appreciate the help.

Sam

That is the article that has the full kit. I was looking for information on doing it without the kit. I may just have to buy this kit and go this route. It has got to be better than the nightmare I have going right now. Can I just take the wiring and parts out of a wrecked 91 truck and plug it in?

Yes you can just use the parts from the wrecked 91. You only "need" the solid state controller and the glow plugs. You can add bullet connectors but its not going to be easy to get ones that will stick tight enough to make that SS system work reliably. I used the blue bullet conns. from NAPA at first and then some pink bullet conns from Radio Shack. Neither would hold reliably after a few heat cycles. Unfortunately IH and Ford never offered the connectors by themselves. I'm sure that there exists somewhere a usable connector but I would grab the SS controller and the 7.3 glow plug harness. I'd leave the dash unchanged and the blue wire from the controller hanging and then I would drop the controller in the spot behind the battery tray and then get the biggest wires I could to extend the feed wire for the controller.
