A few weeks back I was in Carson City, came up to a red light and the L/R tired skidded to a stop. never done that before. next block down did it again. So knew something was up with the rear Brakes to suddenly do that.
Couple days ago noticed that on the rubber splash shield, the rubber flap under the bed in front of the tire under the bed has a few spots of oil like maybe it was flung off the wheel.
Shined a Flash Light under the Driver side to the back of the Backing Plate on the Pass side. Edge of it was kind of damp looking.
Today I jacked up the rear, pulled the Tire and Brake Drum. I
just knew It would be an oily mess. Nope, just the normal Brake Dust etc... But did notice one side of the Wheel Cylinder was weeping Brake Fluid. Blew it all out with a can of Wally World Brake spray cleaner. ..And did the same to the drum.
Measured the width of the Shoes, and 3" wide.
Buttoned her back up and headed down to O`Really`s for a set of
Shoes, Wheel Cylinders and Hardware Kit. With my War Monger, Baby Killer Discount, (Military) it came to $101.66.
That`s what they called us Viet Nam vets back in the 60`s.
Headed over to HF, last day of Black Friday sale, and picked up another set of 3 ton Jack Stands. $49.99 marked down to $24.99. Also one of those metal box`s that attaches to the HF Roll around tool carts for a box of the Mechanic gloves.
Already had one screwed to the shop wall for the light blue 5 mil
gloves. Needed another one for the heavier 7 mil.
5 mil and good (?) for oil changes but for heavier thing the 7 are better.
Was there Saturday and bought the Merlin Air Hose reel. Marked down to $75. Damn that is a heavy sucker, gotta figure out how to get it up and mounted. Dang, shoulda got a younger Wife.
Then headed over to Wally World for a few more cans of Brake Clean. It`s about 1/2 the price of what O`Really has for theirs.
So this week I`ll be dickin with the Brakes. Suppose to be good this week thru Saturday. It was to be 60, today it shows 55, maybe something is changing. Better weather than back east at least.
Looking at the springs and levers with the Drum off sure is a complicated looking mess compared to others I have done.
Long as I keep one side together for a guide I`ll be good.
