Would it be OK to use RTV Silicone on the valve covers instead of the standard gaskets, and/or are there any better aftermarket gaskets available?

I had a decent leak on the pass side valve cover....I had a look at it, realized I had rubber gaskets so I tightened up the loose bolts and no more leaks. I would try to get a set of rubber gaskets. I have my doubt's if the RTV will seal for long on a VC with the heat. If you do try it I would recommend the Grey Permatex RTV, we use it a lot at work on Detroit 60 series oil pan gaskets and it seem's to hold up well in a harsh enviroment.

If your gonna go through all that to pull the valve covers anyway, use the right gasket. I just did mine they're less than 10 bucks do yourself a favor and do it once
