Should i need to use glow plugs in the summer?

Do these engines normally need the gp's to start on a warm 85F morning, or should it start on compression? if i burn the plugs it lights right off, and anytime it's warm i don't need them. Does it have to do with the timing or fuel quality?

ive always needed to let the gp's burn one time in the summer, even if its 100 degrees outside. my pump and injectors are original with 287k miles though so that maybe why.

I think it is a good idea to use them. rather it fire up effortless on first try than crank on it.

Some do... Some don't.

I agree with the last posting, it's certainly easier on the starter/batteries/cables to let the GP's do their magic before cranking.


My truck will crank off without them, but it sputters and runs rough for a minute that way.
