Well I've spent some time this morning putting an order together for brake parts from RockAuto and of course I am trying to minimize shipping costs by making sure my items come from the same warehouse as indicated on the RA shopping cart summary. I noticed that after I had accumulated a nice list of parts all coming from warehouse "A" that suddenly some parts were now coming from a different warehouse. So I went back and forth adding and removing items to see how the warehouse component was affected and personally I am now very skeptical of RA's integrity. Just for instance, I added both L & R brake front brake hoses from Sunsong and a front left from Centric and all were listed as coming from warehouse "A". I then removed the Centric part and now one Sunsong hose is coming from warehouse "A" and one from warehouse "C", and the replacement bleeder screws are now coming from warehouse "C" instead of "A". If I add the Centric part back to my cart the warehouse changes again and now other parts are coming from different warehouses. So with the Centric brake hose in my cart shipping total is $16, but if I remove the Centric part my shipping total goes up to $20:dunno:***: Maybe there is a perfectly reasonable explanation but I can't see it yet.

Edit: Pretty sure I posted this in the wrong place so could somebody please move it. Thanks.

I don't know if RA was ever more affordable. I have put together several project lists on there but shipping cost always seem to destroy any benefit of product cost savings. I already have Prime so my shipping costs are zero from there, so long as I can find the parts brand I am wanting. I like ebay but the counterfeit chances go up buying on there depending on what you're buying. I use RA alot for finding part #'s then looking for items elsewhere

I have likely saved a couple thousand dollars buying on Rockauto over the past ~15 years, even with the shipping. Shipping is very reasonable from them. RockAuto is often cheaper than Amazon, even with paid shipping.

My most recent order. $11 shipping is very reasonable for the order size and weight.

Look up the price of Hayden 779 by itself elsewhere. Next cheapest is Summit racing. About $10 more from Summit, factoring in paid shipping on RockAuto.

And the two fittings (5/16 to 3/8) I got for $3.71 each? Look how much they are on Amazon:

Summit isn't any better for an equivalent. Probably charges shipping, being special order:

I love rock auto, but it has its place. Yes sometimes they do jerk you around with warehouses and shipping, but it is just part of the game. They are significantly cheaper than box stores, and i do often find the part numbers i want on rockauto, and then compare to amazon, and make sure the manufacturer is selling it, ie bosch selling an oxygen sensor, etc, but with counterfeit parts being a big issue recently on amazon, i am shying away from it some.

I just ordered a catalytic converter for my wifes car, with the rockauto discount codes, it came out to $15 cheaper than amazon. not much, but beats a kick in the pants, and where i live, amazon takes the same time or longer than rockauto does to get to my house even with prime.

When i was rebuilding and swapping axles on my truck, I sourced many parts from RA, but the spicer dana 60 rebuild kit was from ebay, and other parts still were from amazon. I have learned if you are going to try to be frugal buying the best parts at the best prices, you have to spend your time shopping around.

When I order something I expect it to come from the person or business I order it from, not 2 or 3 different places.
Like the GP`s I ordered from RA, the ZD-1 that were discontinued and were a killer price....But only had a few not a whole set. So then ordered 8 of the new ZD-28`s. But came from 2 different wear houses.

Few years back I ordered some parts and came from 3 different places.
Usually I just use O`Really`s for some things.
Last week I got rear Brake cylinders, Shoes and Hardware kit.
replaced the leaky Wheel Cylinder, and when I pulled the drum, the old Shoes looked good, so taking the new set back. No return shipping.

Few little quirks i run into with rockauto....

1) some parts are stocked at more than one warehouse. So when you add another item, the source on the first item might change on the fly. Multiples of a part may come from a different places and jack up the freight charge.

2) sometimes ordering a part individually may be cheaper overall freight than 2 together. (typically heavy-ish or oversize).

I often have a 'master' cart going, and then pick off groups of parts into smaller carts. Visit your carts regularly or they disappear.

Yes, they will do that when the big list starts forming for some reason. i will often go back and cherry pick different parts after they do the switcheroo.. it's still a better deal for most stuff, if it can wait. sometimes i get stuck going to napa or whatever. i like the closeouts and bulk cheap filters
