So my super cab is an 88 but appears a mid year change with some of the wiring I am seeing.

It uses the large ROUND connection at the fire wall from clip to cab.

I want to covert and upgrade to 92 up style clip.

My OBS clip harness for a 94 turbo uses a rectangular connector.

I am hoping I can undo and rewire the rectange to round....

Anyone knkw or hqve any suggestions?

Thanks for looking

Yeahhh... PUNT THE BALL.........

Al there is a way to remove each wire and install it in the other plug but I can't tell you what tool you need to make or buy to do this. A magnifying glass works well seeing way down inside these connectors. One with a light is even better but they can be expensive even on fleabay..... Once you see what I'm talking bout I'm sure you might be able to "make a tool" for this.

Al, are the functions similar enough to be amenable to that? Why the change? Other than the shape of the connector what's the advantage?

Just curious. It's not going to be a small undertaking. What's the upside? If you have clean OBS harnesses and only that connector stands in your way maybe it's worth it. Are you going to change both the cab and outside to the square connector but leave the wires the same?

Brick nose cab...round connector....OBS clip rectangle....

Large fuse/relay box

3 g alt wired correctly

Changes some things and simplifies others in a very complex way .....this be more a pro con discussion about it.

I need to count wires and so forth to see if same and if not what is different....

Thinking outloud here breeding ideas

So probably it's converting the cab side then to match the hood harness. Hmm. I can't think of any show stoppers. Some things might be weird. Cruise control if applicable. I don't know if there are any compatibility issues with the cluster and sensors. The speedo would stay manual I assume. The warning lights are approximately the same right?

Brake light switch is probably the sameish.

needlessly complex job for little gain. modify the light pigtails to adapt to OBS light from brick and be done. i piggyback an underhood fuzebox for accessory wiring work so it is isolated from the oem one.

i would not attempt this without changing the sheet metal.

when i did that 89 F350 PSD, i put the OBS firewall over the brick nose hole, and theres alot more work than i wanted to do.
i just cut the brick firewall portion out, and welded the OBS in.

FYI theres 3 connectors vs the 1 or 2 for the brick nose.
my 94 SC LB IDI ZF5 has 3 connectors on the firewall.
a computer perhaps on the far right

my 87 had 1, with provisions for a computer for auto/gasser trucks

no clue i will never run an auto, and dont care to learn about them LOL

pulled a computer out of the 89 as well. was an auto/460 tho

im with Calvin, there are bigger fish to fry

Ok let me be completely clear

ROUND bricknose plug IN my firewall is staying right where it is!

Rectangle plug may get redone to a round style...

Why...cause maybe I can...

Why...

So all the factory 94 turbo harness for engine and for alt and so on is plug and play....

Easy peasy...maybe maybe not....

@towcat yes yer right rearrange light plugs done...

Still leaves poor 87 harness with voltage reg and ***** attached or in harness...hence my desire to swap up.

Piece of cake. If they are the same pin style, those little round ones. Colors should be the same, just need them in proper location.
2 hours if I was there.

I would think an EVTM from the two relevant years, and some bathroom studying of the connector face diagrams in each one, would provide the answers.

I wouldn't be re-pinning anything, wire stripper, soldering gun, and liquid electrical tape. ;Sweet

Just a FYI most of the pins in the square connector are way smaller then then the big pins in the round connector, you would have to cut the small pins off, solder the large ones on then continue the repin. Also have fun with obs's multiple ignition switch feed vs the bricks single wire feed.

Actually what you describe is far far more work. These connectors and even the headlight ones @towcat mentioned come apart quite easy and you can reconfigure the simple and effectively.

Just got tagged to mow in orchard and such so now going to be super busy with work and shop and and and...this lil project may be a sit listen to CBC radio 2 and do with cool beer in hand.
