93 7.3 tubro truck just installed new IP but has less power than before. It seems to start and run great other than having no power. Egts stay around 5-600 even with a load on it.And even lugging the motor wont smoke at all. Boost is down a bit also. Any ideas what the issue is???

It really needs to be timed with a meter. How did you remove and replace the injection pump. If you removed the pump still connected to the gear and cover you may have it off timing in the gears. If you didn't remove it that way then you surely need to time it. I have a timing meter rental program I offer to any member of this forum. I send the tools needed to time your engine and all the instructions plus my cell number. The fee is $60.00. Contact me thru a pm if interested. But please.. Get it timed if you can find someone that will do it. Also do not pay for some so called mechanic to time it by ear and charge you for it... If you findsomeone thats going to time it like that please send me the money they charge. You will egt the same result... Money out of pocket and nothing back for it. Ask for the pulse type timing and have them set it for 9 to 9.5 degrees before top dead center. Ford factory specs are 8.5 + or - 2.5 degrees... Thats not what the old guard here feels is accurate enough. My Kent Moore J33300 meters will time down to a 10th of a degree. They are a micro processer cumputer that does this very well. At this time I have a meter in the Pa. area and it will be ready to move on in a few days. Out here on the west coast of Ca only one location I know of offers pulse type timing and last year their charge was $120.00. I'm betting its more this year. Three years ago it was $60.00....

It's probably set up for a NA truck, so turn it up a bit (do you have a pyro gauge?). And it really needs to be timed.

Didn't pull the oil fill cover so that's not the issue...timing should be close enough to run decent and it does but its just down on power

I would turn it clock wise with a 5/32 al wrench (towards you) and 1 to 2 flats makes sure you have a pyro gauge on it jus did mine it's running good now not to much smoke tell she's floored

Your pyro will tell you how much to turn up the fuel. Personally I would turn it up a flat at a time, going out and giving it a good flogging test drive between, and watch your EGT's. Once they get into the range you're used to, you've turned it up enough. 1100 I think was the 'hoshitnomore!' number, but I could be wrong.

However Gary is right. You may be timed close enough to run ok, but it's not going to give you what you want outa the peddle till it's timed right. Renting his timing meter ish cheap insurance.

A NA pump is going to be rather under fueled for a turbo, so as long as your EGT's are ok, and you're not "rolling coal" you can give it more fuel. Just make sure you watch what's happening as you do so.

Also, if you're feeling adventurous, you can try bumping the timing by ear. Turn it a dimes width toward the passenger side, tighten it back down, (go ahead and hotwire the cold start advance) start and listen. Rinse and repeat until it starts to rattle like a powerstroke, then stop. Pull off the hotwire and it should be close. This can get you into trouble tho.

Get it timed! That has way more to do with performance then fueling does. Did you know that maximum fuel delivery occurs at 1400 RPM (max throttle)? Everything beyond that is all timing related!

I concure with Mel. I've always said that proper timing makes the difference between a satisfied IDI owner, and one willing to sell.
