I think a lot of the time, our in-grained desire to "scuff-up" or "etch" anything we are gonna be gluing, in order to give the surfaces some "tooth" for the glue to "bite", is mis-applied when adhering the slick-sided little metal plate onto the smooth glass.

Maybe possibly the bond would be better if both surfaces were as slick smooth as possible. :dunno


I have had probably six new windshields put in my 1985 truck over the years, all done by the same windshield-guy.

He has this big caulking-gun that he squirts a dab of whatever it is onto that little plate, then immediately sticks it, mirror and all, onto the glass.

I doubt he even holds it a second; and, as soon as he turns it loose, I bet the glass would break out if it got knocked off.

I have never had one come loose that he put on. ;Sweet
