Does anyone know if my 2002 F350 powerstroke has lockers or posi traction and if not what would it take ?
I’m in deep deep snow country and besides an 8” lift with 4x4 and chains I think that would help.

An optional clutch-based 'limited grip' was available. Look for the diff ratio tag on the rear to have an "L" in it like 4L10 or 3L73 instead of just 4.10 or 3.73.

They are not known for gripping very tightly, its still easy to get stuck with one rear tire spinning - especially with a load in the bed.

On my '95 F350 I swapped it out in favour of a Detroit Locker. That came after a Lockright in the front. Then I had all the traction needed... unstoppable in snow.

So can I put a Detroit Locker on my 2002 ? And what is involved ? Is it simple gear ⚙️ in the differential?

Its a full carrier swap. Your ring gear is bolted to the new Detroit carrier, press on new bearings, and make appropriate adjustments for gear backlash.

If you have an open diff right now, then you could go for a 'lunchbox' style locker like a Lockright, Spartan, etc. These just replace the differential gears inside the stock carrier. Cheaper and easier.

So these will fit our older trucks? Any special issues to installing them?
direct swap. must use a paired set of gears as always.
you gotta drill the center for the e-locker wire.

Wide tall tires aren't helping with traction
