I'm planning on replacing my rear shoes and drums. My new set of shoes are locking up and then the Rabs valve is suspect. It seems the truck rolls way too far after the rears lock up and then disengage right after. the fronts will not stop me either when this lock up happens. Still not sure why this happens. But am interested in a squeak free brake shoe and what drums are best to use. I'm betting someone will say the oem drums are best but what about Nappa drums??

I went with NAPA drums and bypassed the RABS on my shuttle bus. Seems to be working well so far and have not experienced the rears locking up prematurely since there is no proportional valve but I haven't put a ton of miles on it either. I figure I can add a valve if need be.

So I have removed the rear drums to have a look see.....:fan::popcorn
The shoes are worn down to the rivets. I DO NOT have very many miles on these shoes either.

so confirmed the need for drums and shoes. Time to get to work on this...

I don't even know how I found those. They're not even on the site.
But I do remember towcat talking about some brake shoes.

I'm using autozone drums and rotors with Wagner premium pads and shoes. Aside from the slight vacuum delay, I'm very happy with my brake performance. Did you mean that your front brakes aren't working when your rears lock up? If so, I'd say master cylinder or fronts have a lot of air in them

Have you used this kit? Other than the price of it, I've heard alot of complaints with the caddillac calipers not being meant to stop a 7-9k truck:dunno

I would never use then for the front, as that's where most of your stopping power comes from

yes I have this kit, and the truck stops on a dime

Any improvement in stopping power over the factory drums? When mine are adjusted properly and in a good mood they work great, just a pita to get there. I'm considering using the 4x4 gm front 3/4 ton calipers and using a line lock for e brake hmm..

cant answer that, because I did hydroboost at the same time.
lots of people prefer drums for towing. I wont be towing much with my truck, its more of a family hauler.

do not ever use hydraulics for e-brake
they call it an e-brake because you will need it for a back up in case your hydraulics fail.
always keep the e-brake mechanical.
