ever since ive had this truck, with the new engine she would always start right up.

only time ive ever had an issue is when a battery cable came off, and another time when it got corroded.

i have not addressed this situation yet.
im beat after today.

I know your pump builder, and can guess you haven't wore thT thing out with mileage yet. I am going with alternator getting weak. Or connections....

refilled our drinking water this morning,
decided to fill up with fuel.

while waiting for the tank to fill, i checked oil.
to my dismay, oil looked chunky.
popped the rad cap, and coolant isnt pink, its muddy water!
with loss of coolant and alot of pressure under the cap.

so.... the engine is coming out.

either its a head gasket.
oil cooler is done
i cracked a head
or something else i do not forsee.

looks like im pulling the engine out of the 89 i just bought and going through it.

maybe i should just order a reman......

Boo. That kinda sucks, buuuuut, it is an opportunity to make it better!

I keep waiting to find this same thing. Oil cooler doesn't appear to ever have been off mine.

Keep us involved. I always like looking at pictures.

I have 2 other engines I could go through.
gonna see what the machine shop says about my heads.
if there good, ill get them done.
if not, ill take the engine I have out of the 94 and work on it.
if it cavitated, I would see signs out of the tail pipe.
which I do not.
coolant in oil is what im seeing.

I beat the hell out of this truck, its either a head gasket or an oil cooler.
either or, im doing both w/ head studs, new cam etc etc etc...

Sad news for sure but that will not cause a hard start unless we are not getting all the hard start information. If the engine cranks just the same as before then I really can't offer much. All we need is fuel, air and heat to fire off any idi. Knock one of those out of the equation and you have a no start.

in the mornings it lights off great, no bleeding off of fuel all night.
after its warm , it takes 7-10 rev's for it to light.
ive found no air in my fuel system.
everytime ive hit the schrader valve fuel comes out no air.

this only happens when the engine is warm. if i was having a hard start in the mornings, i would blame the glow plugs.

i have not done a compression or a leak down test.

performed coolant system pressure check.

set the pump @ 14 psi waited 5 minutes
pressure was down to 12.5
rotated engine over,
pumped back up to 14 psi
another 5 minutes down to 12.5 psi
and turned it over once again with the same results.

fired the engine up(cold) and the pressure increased to 17 psi.

currently running the engine to operating temp to test again.

my thoughts are that coolant is leaking into a cylinder diluting the fuel.

as luck would have it, my meter was left out in the rain yesterday.....
bu the way it lights off in the AM tells me that my batteries, alternator and cables are doing its job.

about 10 minutes of run time, coolant pressure has increased from 14 psi to 17.
still on the cold side.
