I've been working for a plumbing company for about six months and I'm just about to start plumbing school.
My question is would rubber hose clamp, more specifically a 4 inch by 2 inch fernco (rubber coupling) work as a intake hat
And the intercooler pipes would be in abs pipe,
I know it sounds horribly red neck, but hey its an idea

I think heat would destroy it. The O-Ring under the snail in typical systems goes brittle over time...

What you are describing will fit dimensionally, but neither the coupling nor the ABS pipe are designed for pressure or temperatures encountered under boost. Remember, they are drain fixtures (no pressure). If you want to use plumbing stuff, look on the pressure side (water delivery). You are still using more energy to solve a problem that is already handled, with equipment that is not designed or intended for the purpose.

It doesn't make sense to use pipe anyway, when you can buy an intercooler install kit for next to nothing and get all kinds of pipe, connectors, etc.

There's always demand for a new intake hat. It doesn't seem like it would be hard to make one that didn't have the nice swirl on it. I wonder how important that actually is when dealing with a pressurized intake.

When you put an entire house on (test )there is constant pressure over night in the waste system , some times for a few days(if you don't have a leak)and until the inspector comes
And I did look at the manufacturer of fernco and they said it's good up to 4.3 psi , and not recommended for oil
It was an idea but does someone have a picture of an intercooler setup on the factory turbo with the stock intake hat and stock turbo filter box, I have looked but haven't found a picture of it

It would work. For a little while. Probably not something I would recommend, but I give you credit for thinking outside of the box. Actually, if you could find one in silicone, I bet it would work fine.

Ebay is full of companies that sell al kinds of intercoolers and piping. The hat may be the tuff idea.

You could adapt a carburetor cover into an intake hat with a little bit of work. Some people modify the intake manifold to just use a pipe too instead of the giant hole. Its aluminum by the way

The test you refer to is standing water pressure. The drain system under normal circumstances operates by gravity, not pressure.

I have used plumbing fixtures over the years to fix cars, but only as a temporary remedy.
