So I have been going back and forth between buying a shift kit and doing the work myself to learn something and hopefully slightly upgrade my trans. At the moment I am so damn busy with no end in sight, wood splitting time has arrived, that buying a valve body and taking advantage of someone else's experience is starting to sound better, and with the rain now I'm not trying to spend more time under the truck than necessary. So, anybody have experience with Punisher valve bodies? Admittedly that kind of branding is usually a turnoff, I would never buy from "Monster Transmission" just based on the name alone, but after attempting to contact several outfits selling valve bodies Punisher was the only one to get back to me. I am still waiting on BTS which would be my first choice due to their stellar reputation. Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Fry?

Well fwiw I think they make a reasonably good product. At least from the two of their E4OD units I’ve been around. But others may have different, more in depth experience with them.

BTS will cost twice as much, or more, but you do get what you pay for. If you don’t mind waiting too…

I am kinda wanting to rebuild one of the core E4ODs that I have laying around, but I’d like to try and do it myself. That option seems to be cheaper, fine by me since my dump truck doesn’t get used much, I don’t want to throw too much money at it… and also rebuilding it myself would be an excellent learning opportunity. I have rebuilt a couple ZF5s, that’s easy. With the few specialty tools, I’d trust most people to be capable of doing that. And knowing exactly what parts are in your transmission is a great feeling, at least in a manual. I would imagine just the same or better with an automatic.

My vote is DIY, you got this! (probably)

I would love to rebuild my own transmission and perform the right upgrades but at the moment time is tighter than money. Partly I am concerned about the little details I might miss such as proper polishing or deburring, and the cost of those mistakes can be pretty heavy. So maybe I'm wrong about Monster transmission but I just find marketing like that to be suspicious--then again who would've thought a company named Twitter or Google would ever amount to anything?

I wouldn't not buy from a company because of the name, in this day and age marketing is everything, so if its a catchy name maybe it grabs people in.

Honestly, only reason I clicked on this post was because I said Oh man I havent heard anyone talk about Punisher valve bodies in awhile. I believe they used to be all the rage

I would go with someone who responds to you, if you have questions, you want answers and responses. I dont want to have to chase people down to take my money.

I recently had my PSOM rebuilt, used Odo-Pro.com I was a little unsure, I was shipping the life blood of my truck with the correct mileage to someone. Peter(the owner) got right back to me, and answered my questions, and I felt better knowing that someone who responds was getting my business, that and when I googled the shipping address there was a OBS ford in the driveway lol

I should not chime in on this one...but I did have a first-hand experience that involved one of the companies mentioned...

It was a unit that 'they' had 'built' and sold to a guy and it failed as soon as it was installed and test driven.

I was asked to look into it and what I found is the unit had not been gone through completely...in my opinion...and as far as I could see...the main clutch drum was not disassembled to put in new seals...even though the unit was sold as 'rebuilt'.

The company paid some money to fix the unit...but their customer had to kick in the remainder...and...had to pay to have the unit R&R'ed again, flush the crap out on the cooler and lines, and new fluid.

I am not impressed with fancy names and flashy websites....

I am more impressed with sincerity...either genuine or percieved.

Anyway...if it were me...I would wait until 'rush' time is over and you have some more time to devote to fixing the thing yourself...

Don't worry about missing something or not doing anything...trust your gut and good sense and educate yourself as much as you can going into it.

At least you will know what you have.

Just my .02

I've had e4od's apart noting too serious you can do it yourself if you take your time watch a video and importantly have a large heavy duty table or bench

@XOLATEM i was very tempted to tie you in here. So I’m glad you chimed in.

I actually trust what you say!! You seem to me that you have experience to talk the talk. And you don’t blow smoke.

There is another thread recently on here about a YouTube series and buying a rebuild kit from the man. Seems he won’t steer you wrong either as too many of us are gun shy due to being wronged.

Stupid name, almost no description of what the product does, nope.

My trans guy always recommends, and installs the transgo tugger kit. Never have had any complaints from them. One truck is right at 26k gross.....every day.

Thanks, Buddy, My face is reddening up as I type this. I quit cigarettes many a moon ago...;)

Along those lines I would like to give credit to a lot of folks here on this site...I have learned something from each and every one of you-all and I believe that everyone has something to contribute to the whole community.

As it happens...participants come and go...we should all appreciate one another while we can. There is a fairly-large-sized brain trust to draw from on this site and it should not be taken for granted.

Cupholders...I have yet to craft one or two for my truck...maybe in the Spring...

I second that...you do need a good, heavy bench...it is a big hoss of a unit, the parts are big and there is a learning curve to be successful but a reasonably determined and capable guy can fix one...I encourage anyone who is willing to give it a try...

Gather your info, take notes, gather some tools, collect some friends that have done it, and go for it. Make sure you have a couple of good torque wrenches, watch your clearances, and keep everything sanitary.

Take your time and be thorough. You'll be fine...

Aw geez, I feel all warm and fuzzy after reading these posts. It's amazing how a transmission can bring folks together. Yeah I'll surely end up doing this myself and likely install one of the TransGo options. Sometimes between home repair, vehicle repair, property maintenance, and working full time I occasionally fantasize about someone else doing the work for me, but it's just a fantasy for now.
