Proper block heater behavoir

i like the timer relay on the outlet connected to the glow plug extension cord. I have always wanted to do this but evertime i go to buy one i get home and some how it gets lost? So instead it stays plugged in from when i get home from work till i leave for work the next morning.

Just get a 20 amp grounded outdoor rated timer and fagettaboutit.

Thanks guys. I think it's working OK. This morning, I unplugged it with no gloves on, and I could feel the recepticle was a little warm. Start ups are very smooth, so I think we are good. 7 degrees this morning too. I still let it warm up while I ate my cereal, so I don't know how long if at all I would have had to wait for heat.

Mel, I'm not sure why the PSD acts different than the IDI block heater....but it does

I just listen for the cackle when I plug it in

mel--if your getting heat at the plug--you have too lite a ext cord---or-----your need to polish the terminals with--STEEL WOOL--NOT sandpaper----the burnish color of the terminals is acually corrosion--and thats resistance--hence heat---should be shiny brass color--muratic acid will also cut the dark color off---
