Hi my brother and I are pondering on putting a procharger on his 93 IDI what do you all think and how much boost should we run? We will be up grading to a better pump and injectors and also tossed around filling the block half way with block filler to strengthen it.We are also going to build custom big tub headers for it any suggestions?

By the time you get a pulley small enough to build boost on that thing you'll probably be overspeeding the compressor

if you have one, try it. it has been discussed before, but i dont think anyone here has done it. then let us know how it works out.

they seem to be the rage with the psd crowd.

Running it compound style into the turbo or getting rid of the turbo and running it solo?:dunno
All a Procharger is is a belt driven turbo; they both are centrifugal compressors, just get the tune right and it will work.

Why would a centrifigal supercharger be carnage on an idi compared to running one on a Powerstroke or Dmax? Also if you size the supercharger properly to the motor it will build boost efficiently without overspeeding the supercharger. Its just all depends on finding the right supercharger for the application.

The only way that any type of supercharging would be bad for an IDI is due to the high compression ratio, and getting the tune wrong. If anything, the supercharger would heat the air less because it's not exposed to the exhaust.

Oh ya. I also think you should try the supercharger. My friend and I are fitting on an Eaton M112 onto hiws 6.9. It'll be cool. I think.

try it and see what happens, i think it is a great idea, as ameristar1 said the air will be cooler not having to run through already hot metal. the only thing is that as you are getting it dialed in you will have to watch egts and boost levels like a hawk because hotter exhaust will not make it build more boost like a properly functioning turbo.
these guys make headers for the 6.9-7.3s pn: 269

I really don't see why this can't be done, my dad had a cummins is a 60's freightliner with a blower on it from the factory. It made good power, and was very reliable. Not sure what the compression ratio on those engines were though.
