Thanks for the clarification on De-Bug. It looks like an interesting unit/idea. I don't fully understand how it works though. How does it kill cells through magnetism? I've had full body MRI scans, using, I'm sure, much more powerful magnets, and I've walked away. I don't really understand the process.

This morning I added BioBor to both tanks, filled a new filter with ATF, and ran the engine for half an hour. I could take it up to 2500 rpm and let it down slowly and all was well. If I let it down quickly it would die. I pulled the fuel filter, checked it for sludge, and filled it with Diesel Kleen. Same result. It still dies when I let off the pedal too quickly.

How long does it take for the metering valve to come unstuck?

It may have got past the filter if it was completely clogged it may have bypassed. You have an inlet screen in the cone at the end of the pump where the inlet line attaches, open that up and see if it's clogged.

Midnight, are those sediment bowls also filters with replaceable elements, or how exactly does that work? Is there any advantage to this setup over a "traditional" Racor filter? Lastly, what size/GPM rating would be best for our engines, do you think? I'd like to put a "real" filter in place of the water separator, and that might be a good candidate...thanks! ;Sweet

The GoldenRod unit that I linked to is available with either 3/4- or 1-inch NPT inlet/outlet, so it ain't gonna starve you for fuel.

The pictures explain themselves; clear see-thru DEEP plastic sediment-bowl with a drain-****; available are various different filter cartridges --- plain-Jane, water-separating, and stainless mesh screens; the bowl can be drained, rinsed, and replaced without disturbing/removing the cartridge.

Just about everything that the filter collects gets rinsed loose to settle to the bottom; thus, the cartridges last almost indefinitely.

Be aware that these units are not meant to replace the main fuel-filter, but to be a cheap servicable means of catching most of the bigger trash that would otherwise rapidly choke the main filter, thus making the much more expensive filter last many times longer.

Although they are rated to filter to minute micron ratings, the disposable canister design of the main fuel-filter has no space for sediment to collect, thus it quickly chokes the filter; cut one apart and see just how closely confined the internals are. :)

Hello Ken... You posted that the fuel was old.... Any chance you have some critters growing in it???That wouls start to plug up the filter possibly cause ing your issues. It does sound like a sticking metering valve. With the motor running try pushing in on the lever on the drivers side of the pump. Post back what that does... BTW Calvin is finally taking some time off and is vacationing with the family......:yell::thumbsup: I talked with him last nite. Sounds like he is a differant person on the phone. Might be down this way later next week...:sly I felt really bad bothering him while he was having so much fun so I wont be calling him again till he gets back home....
I'm home guys.
Whatever problems I left behind when I went on vacation....well they're still here and happily waitng for me with more of their buddies.
Ken-
you need to borrow my filtration rig. there is absolutely no good will every come about from the crap getting run through a good pump.
call me in the morning after 11am. I saw the goldenrod kits at the Tractor Supply in Gilroy. Had to walk off my lunch from Sonic;SweetI miss my breakfast toaster sandwiches.;p
Gary-
I am southbound wed afternoon with a damn Uhaul trailer tailgating me once again. Am stopping in north Hollywood for the evening, so I can pick up a customer's vehicle at the auction in the morning. before I can go, I need to put fresh skins on the rear dualls and change out the front brake hoses.
All-
I will be running around like a chicken with my head cut off tomorrow, so if you do want to call me, make sure its really important. My plate will be very full tomorrow.-cuss-cuss-cuss-cuss

Thanks for the warning  OTOH my hands are pretty full for the next couple of days as it is (take a look at the brake thread I just posted). Where'd you go on your mini-vacation?

And, Midnight, I see...about how much space do they physically take up? Do you think it would easily fit in place of the stock water separator mounted on the firewall on the early trucks? I may have some more questions for you after I read further into it...will do that when I get a chance; a bit preoccupied with the brake issues at the moment :(

I sort of think one could fit the GoldenRod in place of the old style separater.

I would mount it as high as possible, such that the bowl can drop enough to clear the cartridge when removing.

OR, it could be mounted in such a way that the unit could be lifted up for servicing and lowered back into place for running. :)
