RLDSL...

What book is that GP controller diagram out of??

Gary

I'm not sure exactly, those were ones sent to me a couple of years ago when I was having troubles. I'm pretty sure one of them is out of the factory manual. I have the factory ford manual on CD but I have yet to be able to figure out how to cut and paste pictures out of that program :dunno

I have the factory CD manual too and have copied/pasted images from it to forums in the past. Here's how I do it:

Get the picture you want on screen, size it so it's reasonable, hit your Alt-print screen keys (both at the same time). Go into "paint" (start--all programs--accessories--paint in XP). Paste the picture in there, do a "save as" and save it as a jpeg/jpg file. Upload/email or whatever after that.

I use Outlook for email and can bypass the paint step by just copying/pasting directly into the email. You just don't have a copy of the image around for future use if you go that route.

If Alt-print screen doesn't work, trying toggling your F-lock key if you have one.

Ok. I think there are more sensors than that but you have covered them pretty well. There is an oil (pressure?) sensor on the turbo also. 2(?) sensors on the fuel filter.

This isn't the exact diagram as mine is a 1994 turbo but it certainly leads me in a direction.

Gauges and idiot lights in combination are great! Nuthin' better.

Didn't know that was a tach sender BTW. I don't believe I have a tach at the moment but I'm not sure. It's been a while since I've sat in it. I've been enjoying my Cummins 12V.

What input does the tranny need? TPS only?

Those diagrams are the bomb. Got more?

I'm pretty sure the '94 trans also needs to see the speed sensor in the diff, since that year had the electronic speedo. The other option is to get a stand alone controller like from www.becontrols.com. That way you have full control over all the programming and it's easier to hook up. There are a couple others makers out there as well.

Great stuff again, THANKS!!!

How could one get a diagram of the connector through-firewall for both years?

I could get the engine running with just a few wires but I need it to shift too so I may stick with the stock harness... Don't want to...

I think you need a diagram for the '91 and up, as those had that speedo set up. '88-90 had the E4OD and cable driven speedo. I also don't know if the speed sensors in the rear ends are the same IDI to PS, although they are the same trans? May need to check part # and see if they're the same.

I had quite the time finding any really usefull diagrams (Chevy or Ford) for my swap as they all were missing at least one thing I needed to know, pretty much tore them apart and went through them to figure things out.

Just found something very useful. I overlooked it before.

Connectors C202M and C202F which correspond to the F and M engine codes.

VERY similar, not exactly the same.

I might actually just see if it plugs in right now... Not power it yet...

Well to be frank about this swap....I helped put a PS into an IDI truck...we removed the cab on the IDI and the engine trans....then did same on the PS truck and installed the PS into the IDI's frame....then we swapped the PS cab. Nice easy swap, Rad is different so you'll need a new rad support for a PS

Rad support
Throttle cable, and pedal assembly
Exhaust

Those are the primary issues with change over other than wiring which for your case is in all likely hood completely different. Good luck on the swap and hope that the IDI works well for ya.

This is a cool project and something I've thought about. I've been looking (dreaming really) of a crew cab SRW F350. Seen some high mileage PSD's and thought about repowering with an IDI. I think you're the 1st to give it a try. Keep up posted. Oh, take lots of photos too.;Sweet

The PSD radiator is different, but the PSD radiator support will work just fine.;Sweet I have a '95 PSD front clip on my truck. The IDI radiator simply swapped right into the PSD radiator support without a single mod. It just bolted right in.

Well, all good stuff to know.

I just came inside to take a short break.

I'm gonna make my own hoses if need be, radiator is not changing. I did this before with a Chevy diesel to gas mod. Stick galvanized pipe in between them (splice) or find hoses that fit.

I called a j-yard in Lakeland and they have an entire 1993 diesel so I am disassembling my dash now and pulling out my wiring harness. When I pull it on the 1993 I am going to use a hammer to but it apart. Reasonable price.

There's nothing complicated about this besides getting the tranny, gauges and crap like that working so I guess just grabbing that harness is the way to go...

No pix yet but I will go snap some.

Don't make fun of my truck please, it's been through some hard times recently like having a 2,000 pound branch fall on the roof. I'm just working on a concrete pad, no fancy structure or lift but I do my best. Removing headliner too.

I've fallen head-over-heels in love with my Dodge Cummins but I need a mistress too.

Ultra, I commend you on this effort. You ARE breaking new ground here as far as I know. Being that you have an OBS, it should be easier however. The physical part is a no brainer. The wiring is probably a lot easier going in this direction, then the other way around. A good wiring diagram from both would be in order. I'm doing a fuel injected I-6 to IDI conversion right now, so I have 2 big connectors that are not in the world I'm used to. I plan to find a pigtail for them and just match up the needed sensors and what not. Thankfully it's a manual, so that part is easy. Ford generally tried to not re-invent any wiring that they could get away with, often re-using the same connectors and just making adapter harnesses. A good way to handle the transmission may be to just use the Baumanator control system. A completely seperate product that would give you a complete transmission controller in one handy package. Good luck, and take pictures! This would make a good technical article for our archives. ;Sweet

Yeah man, if I got that Baumannator I'd be all set but it's pricey. I was just quoted $600 over the phone for it complete. I only paid $700 for whole engine with rebuilt inj pump, new lift pump, water pump, tranny, harness, PCM, etc.

I got a very informative PM telling me about ability to hook laptop to it, what could be better than that??? Maybe my kids bikes not getting stolen, that would be better, but in the world of cars that's about tops.

I guarantee people have done this conversion before, just maybe not posted about it or were not on this website. Some guy somewhere in Namibia had 2 broken trucks and made one or something.

Thanks for the support and ideas guys!

I'm done tracking down the latest bike thieves, waiting for them outside their school and the police are on the job and currently interviewing them.

Now I can get back to the attack,

AM I GETTING CARRIED AWAY???

Snapped a shiteload of pix.

Haven't looked into uploading them yet or HOW.

I pulled this thing apart and it's just SO pretty with nothing in there and so friggin crappy to get apart/together that I am considering a roll cage or exo-cage or just driving a gutted truck. Thinkin' about some strong bedliner for the interior floor and panels.

I'm sure the POUNDS of wire had something to do with it...

Am I getting carried away out of an easily accomplishable project?

Please advise.

Tell me I'm sane.

Heh.
