I just swapped a 7.3 turbo non PS into my 87 f350.
I got her running ok, she has a intake leak. I tore the intake off of my 6.9 just to see what I was getting into before I tore the 7.3 apart.
Will the 6.9 intake work? They look exactly the same. Does the 7.3 have bigger runners?
I was thinking about polishing the 6.9 intake if it will work.
What other parts are worth keeping?
Heads?
I believe the fuel pump is the same.
Just not too sure.
I searched the forum with no success
Thanks!

As far as I know the intake manifolds are the same. The heads are not interchangeable because the 6.9 has 7/16 head bolts and the 7.3 idi has 1/2 inch head bolts. The pistons are also not the same.I would keep the oil cooler, oil pan, valve covers, exhaust manifolds, and any other parts on the out side of the engine.

I think the crankshaft and rods are the same between 6.9 idi and 7.3 idi non turbo, but I'm not 100% sure on those.

Any 6.9 is drilled the same as a 7.3 as far are external pats go. this means anything tha bolts to the outside of a 7.3 will bolt to the outside of a 6.9. Now internals are nearly the same but the 7.3 turbo crank is different but it will bolt into a 6.9 just the same. the turbo crank is balanced different. The turbo pistons fit any 7.3 but needs the turbo rods to work. Now a turbo rod fit a 6.9 but then again you will need big pin turbo pistons. Sadly they are no longer made so its custom only for a turbo rod to work in a 6.9. Both 6.9 and 7.3 non turbo engines use the same rods. All intakes are the same no matter 6.9, 7.3 or 7.3 turbo engine. Now a 7.3 head will work on a 6.9 but to make a 6.9 head work on a 7.3 you will need to drill out the ehad bolt holes. Its not a common thing to do but it was done once.

Yes. the lifters, push rods, rocker arms, and dog bones are the same. One small point to add to icanfixall's intake statement. They are the same except for the 7.3 intakes have holes for mounting the glow plug controller while the 6.9's don't. This minor difference can be fixed by drilling and tapping new holes in a 6.9 intake. Minor difference, easy fix.
