Part ID help

I am looking for the part in these photos. It's a line that runs from the lift pump, and connects to another line that goes to the fuel filter, as seen in the second photo. It's leaking and needs to be replaced. I'm not a mechanic (not even remotely) but I have had a super hard time finding one who will help me with this issue on my '91 7.3 idi. It seems they really don't like the old trucks here in California, where I currently am. Anyway, I'm trying to locate the part so I can get the one mechanic who is willing to help me at all to replace it, but I can't find it anywhere because I don't know what it's called. Anyone know?

I think maybe that's the line that this piece attaches to, I think, not the piece itself.

So is it the line coming from the tank selector valve to the lift pump? I believe part of that line is just a basic fuel hose with screw clamps. Least on the older idi's thats what ive seen.

It runs from the lift pump to another line that looks like it goes to the fuel filter. I don't think the tank selector valve is involved, but I don't actually know for sure. I don't really know my way around this fuel system at all. What does the tank selector valve look like? This is definitely not a basic fuel hose with screw clamps.

Both your engine supply and return goes to this.

Your engine supply exits this, goes across the cross member under the engine, then up to the lift pump. Past the lift pump its filter then the pump.

The return goes down the drivers side cylinder head down the transmission and to the frame rail.

The tank selector valve is mounted on the inside C channel of the frame rail under the drivers seat.

If there's something else in there its probably aftermarket.

Unless it's a truck that was originally a 6.9. I'm guessing that Max has a 6.9 truck. It also sounds like he's mixing up which direction the fuel flows. I'm assuming that he's talking about the factory water separator. This would be the line that runs from the separator to the lift pump. The picture seems to show a leak at the connection that's after the water separator.
Max, you can just disconnect the lines that go to the separator and connect the two hard lines together with a piece of rubber fuel line.
Edit to add, the water separator is underneath the brake booster.

Thanks, but Max is my bus. I'm Mary. Max was never a 6.9, he's a 7.3. And I'm not talking about a water separator. Anyway, I think I've figured out that we are never going to locate this part, and I've found something newer that looks like it has the same connectors. Once it arrives then we'll just have to make one using those connectors. Thanks, everyone!

Mary, that first picture looks a lot like a factory fuel line running from tank to selector switch.

Here's what a stock '91 should have:
1) From the injector pump in the front center of the engine, there should be a metal line running from the aft end up to the fuel filter, which sticks up above the front passenger side of the engine.
2) From the front side of the fuel filter housing there should be a steel line running down to the mechanical fuel pump.
3) From the mech. fuel pump there should be a chunk of 3/8 rubber hose making a leap to a metal line on the frame.
4) That metal line runs across the cross member and somewhere it transitions to hard plastic 3/8 which runs back to the selector switch.
5) From the selector switch there should be two 3/8 hard plastic lines running back to the two tanks.

The selector switch will also have one 5/16 hard plastic line coming in from the front, from the rear drivers side of the top of the engine, and two 5/16 hard plastic lines running back to the tanks. These are the return lines.

If its a bus, like a schoolie it could be a completely unique setup. The ends look like common ford quick disconnect lines used in that era though.

Max Mini hasn't posted since Mar 30, a month and a half ago. I hope that means the issue has been resolved.

Yeah after reading that fiasco of a repair, or series of repairs, it would be nice to hear she's okay at least.

Crazy what some people will do to someone who's in a hard spot.

Here's to hoping (Praying) she's gotten it resolved and is doing well.

whatever happened with the transmission issue last year..?

We were all left hanging when you dropped off the radar...after investing so much time and energy trying to help you...it would have been good to at least let everyone move on instead of wondering if you were dessicating out in the desert....

Jus' sayin'....

On the fuel line...you either find one used at the used parts place (wrecking yard) or you find someone with the tool kit and fittings to make a factory-type new one or cobble something together with hose and clamps and cross your fingers it does not pop off and dump diesel all over california...which would be another tight spot to wriggle out of...

A good auto shop would probably have the tool kit to fab up the line...and a dealer might have one of those kits gathering dust in a dusty special tool room...

This is not the only 'kit' available...but it is representative of what is used if you want a reliable repair...provided the user has fair-to-middlin' skills.

I've had excellent success with rubber hose pushed over the nylon line and hose clamps. I despise the Ford connectors.

A bus...is that on an E350 or E450 chassis? My fuel line list is for a pickup. I guess I should trace out my E350, not sure how it's set up, but pretty sure it's not the same.

It would also really help us ID the part if she could get some clear pictures of the part that is not washed out by sun flare and a good clear shot from a little ways back of where it goes. The blurry close up one is pretty useless to determine where this fuel line goes.

That said these fuel systems are pretty simple and can easily be modified with diesel rated fuel hose and clamps. or if you want to spend a little more An lines and fittings.
